I'M WORKING ON A WHIRLPOOL CABRIO WASHER MOD.#GHW9200LW. WHEN THIS THING GOES INTO SPIN IT MAKES A LOUD BANGING NOISE AND I NOTICE OFF CENTER MOVEMENT OF SPIN TUB. WHAT COULD THIS BE? AND COULD SOMEONE SEND ME A TROUBLESHOOTING MANUAL WITH PARTS BREAKDOWN FOR THIS MODEL.

thanks for the info, this is what i was afraid of. combine this with the damage that the spin tub caused, i will recommend to my cust to say bye bye and go get a good old trustworthy direct drive top load whirlpool while they are still available.

Based on the model number, your washer must be Whirlpool Duet instead of a Whirlpool Cabrio and the problem is most likely a dreaded broken spinner support or what is called the spider assembly. It is the three-arm assembly that holds the basket to the shaft. Unlike the basket which is stainless, the spider is made of aluminum that corrodes with time and usually breaks during the 6th or 7th year of the machine. You can certainly tell that it is the spinner support if your washer is at least 6 years old.

The bad news is, the spinner support cannot be purchased separately. It comes as a complete assembly with the basket which is covered by at least a 10-year warranty. The most frustrating fact is that the spinner support is not covered by the same warranty even though they come as an assembly which costs at least $500, a non-economical repair to invest.

Here are some videos of owners of Sears Kenmore Front Load Washers who had an issue with the spinner support. Most Sears Kenmore Front Load Washers are manufactured by Whirlpool like the ones in the videos. Anyway, here's the service manual.

Whirlpool cabrio washing machine doesn't spin

Try to turn the drum by hand, if it hard to turn, there may be something stuck underneath spin basket. If it does turn freely but makes a loud growling sound, you probably have a bad bearing. You should notice black oil and water mixture at bottom of washer, on the rotor. It will usually throw a f51 error code. This unit has service bulletin on this problem.

Whirlpool cabrio model wtw5500xw0 spins loud

The cabrio has a shaft that runs between the wash plate and the rotor located under the washer. The usual cause for noise during spin is something that has made it's way between the spin basket and tub. But it's best to try and determine if the noise is from under the washer or inside the washer, that way you aren't randomly taking things apart. See if you can pin point the location of the noise.

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.
