Sounds like you haven't got the cable installed correctly it will only go in one way check to make sure there are no bent pins but you should never touch or do any thing with the pc running always switch off the pc and leave it switched on at the plug socket to give you an earth this will help to eliminate static discharge and killing components in your pc, Just to clarify your CPU is the chip or brain of the computer. the lid you removed is from the pc itself. there are utilties and programs but if you need to be quite experienced to use them effectively. if you still need one just do a search on www.googalit.com and search for hdd testing software. or try this software http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utilities/File_Maintenance_and_Repair_Utilities/Disk_Repair_Software.html

Hope this all makes sense

Sata cable & pata cable have a any jumper setting

Hi,
The hard drive / optical drive have jumper settings, not the motherboard. PATA has jumper settings, but SATA do not require any. The diagram of the setting is drawn on the hard disk itself below the serial number etc. For SATA, look on the motherboard for the SATA ports. Each port will be named as like SATA 0, SATA 1 etc. If you want the hardd disk to boot first, plug it in SATA 0. and the next device in SATA 1. However, you can also set the first and other boot device from the BIOS itself, in case of SATA.

Wen I turn on PC using Windows Vista I get the warning no boot device available. What does this mean?

Hi britchel07,
I see that you are having issue booting into windows on your system.
I can help you with your concern, we can first try to boot into the Hard drive manually, follow the steps below,
1. Power your computer ON then keep on tapping the F12 key on top the keyboard until you get the Boot Menu screen,
2. On the Boot Menu screen select the Hard drive it maybe listed as SATA or HDD, but if it is not listed then we may need to try a different option, on the Boot Menu the Hard Drive should be the first one on the list.
3. Highlight the Hard Drive on the list then press Enter to make your computer boot into the Hard Drive.
if this does not work then your Hard Drive may not be detected by the machine, why I really can't tell there are many possible causes, but we can try other options to see if this can be rectified.
I believe that you have a Desktop machine, we will need to open up the tower to check if there are lose cables inside from the Hard Drive to your systems Motherboard, inside you should see a Flat Orange like red colored cable sometimes Blue that should be your SATA cable going to your Hard Drive from the Motherboard, try reseating the SATA cable to make sure it is properly connected and also check the SATA power cable just to be surem it should also be a black flat cable connected to the Hard drive just right nest to the SATA cable, after reseating the two cables try turning the computer ON again and see if the system will boot into Windows.
If still you get the Error no boot device found then you may need to get a new Hard Drive for your system.
I hope that this will be helpful with your concern, Have a nice day.

It is telling you that the motherboard can't find the first item on the boot order where it is looking for an operating system, or a bootable disk CDR-DVR. This is usually the DVR Optical Device, or it may be the hard drive. Check your connections on DVR and Hard Drive both at the device and and at the motherboard. Pins in the hard drive and DVR are fine and easy to bend.

Asus P5KPL SE & Sata, Bios "Not Detected Problem"..

The Asus bios won't show SATA devices.
However if you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (or newer operating system then the devices should be detected. If this is not happening then enter the bios -- Storage Configuration -- Configuration Enhanced and set the IDE devices to compatible. This allows all drives to be "seen" and you should then be able to load an OS.

Shutdown the system and disconnect the power cable.Disconnect external peripherials.Hold the power button for 10 secs to drain static power.connect the power cable to the computer.turn on the computer and hit the F2 key to boot in bios.If you are in the bios turn on the caps lock, scroll lock, and numlock key.then Hold the Alt key + E, then Alt key + F, Alt key + B. Computer will restart check for hdd or boot device. If hdd is detected it should boot to desktop. If issue persist .Shut down the system.disconnect power cable.Hold power button for 10 secs.Open the tower and disconnect the hdd from the sata or ide cable.Connect hdd in a different sata or ide connector.Connect power cable and turn on the computer and follow steps 1.If still getting same error possible hdd gone bad.Good Luck.
