I have an advent tv/dvd combo. I dont have a remote and its stuck on video. how can I put it on tv without the remote? thank you

Disconnect the TV\DVD combo from power source (A\C) for two to three days, Replug power cord & see if it returns to normal. 2nd attempt:: Unplug A\C power from wall and take a piece of bear wire or any metal (paper clip, screw driver ) and SHORT the two blades of A\C plug for at least one FULL day.DO NOT PLUG INTO a\c SOCKET FOR ANY REASON !!! After one full day, take the short accross the blades. Replug into A\C power socket. see if that fixes the problem. P.S. Your TV should have a button that switches from TV to DVD play right in the right front.

My advent leptop is not working

Its either a power problem charger or power socket on the laptop or a motherboard problem

Ac in socket keeps switching laptop off

Hi

Either you have a dodgy notebook PSU or the DC socket has a dry joint which will either need to be soldered or replaced. Either way i would recommend getting this seen to before you short the motherboard out.

Unless you are 100% confident with a soldering iron i would not attempt this yourself and instead take to a specialist.

Thanks

Advent laptop, been on holiday for a week, it has not been used in that time. It won't power up with the charger plugged in or not, the power lights are also off. Charger is broke but pc world techguys...

Well, if the chargers don't work that leaves a problem with the power connector on the motherboard. If the socket was or is loose it could be causing a short on the board. The cost of the motherboard will most likely rule out any thought of replacing that. If you have a working charger try removing the battery and with the power disconnected hold the power button down for 60 sec. Then plug the charger in and try to turn the PC on. I've seen this work before and it makes no sense that it does but you can try it. The only other problem I can think of that might cause this symptom if the lid cutoff switch is stuck in the down position and over riding the power switch.

Battery charging issue

Check your mains adapter plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. I suggest you get a quote first.

Laptop wont switch on. power light not on nether when charger plugged in,charger light is on ,on charger

A commom power problem with laptops. To determine if it is the power socket on the laptop is the problem, plug in the adapter into the laptop and wriggle the plug and look at the charge/power LED on the laptop. If the LED flashes as you wriggle the plug then :-
The problem is the power socket on the laptop, it may caused by a dry solder joint and needs to be resoldered or the power socket may be faulty and needs to be replaced. Either way to fix this, it requires the laptop to be dismantled to get at this power socket. Get a quote to repair, as it could cost a few dollars.
If it is a faulty cord/plug on the power adapter, this can be checked with a multi-meter. When you connect the multi-meter probes to the power plug the voltage should be steady and the reading should be slightly higher then the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the power adapter. If the voltages fluctuates as you wriggle the plug then you have a broken wire in the plug. Replacing the plug would not cost much.

If these tests did not resolve your problem, then you could have a motherboard problem. A replacement motherboard may not be a cost effective solution. It may be better to put your money towards a new laptop.
