If you have the 'ubunto.iso' file, you need CD/DVD-writing software to read that ISO file, and to burn that image onto a blank writable disk.

Then, restart your computer, and change the "boot-order" so that the CD/DVD device is the _FIRST_ boot-device. Then, Ubuntu will boot-up, and you can "install" Ubuntu onto your disk-drive.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

How do I format hard drive with Ubuntu 11.10

Download and burn Ubuntu iso file from www.ubuntu.com to either a cd or a usb. Boot from your cd or usb and select the way of installing you want. You can choose between installing ubuntu along windows, erase everything and install ubuntu on entire hard disk or an opportunity called "something else" that lets you manage all hard disk partitions yourself.

You have to format your hard drive using a third party disc to erase everything on your hard drive

Restart your computer during the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS then using the arrow keys scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

The operating system that I used in my computer is XP.How would I install ubuntu operating system on my laptop?

the Ubuntu ISO that you choose for you pc needs to be selected (x86 for normal 32 bit pc or x64 for 64bit devices ) download the ISO and burn to cd or DVD your choice. when you running XP insert the disk and it gives you a option to install aside xp or to partition the drive to add ubuntu separately or to do a clean install ( wiping everything ) or boot up with it and it will help partition the XP drive to install alongside xp to do a dual boot.. this can be easy or hard id get a tutorial on this. but the clean install is the easiest and best it wipes out the drive and I'm almost sure everything will work when it comes on look up the model laptop and ubuntu 11.04(newest ) all my devices work all the time and the software is awesome as well as free and virus free
good luck google installing ubuntu for noobs

After installing ubuntu i get a blank screen saying error

I think, this problem happened because you are installing Ubuntu from the ISO image on your physical hard drive.

Here is the way around this problem. when you get to the option to unstall Ubuntu, press F4 and choose Safe graphics mode. then choose the first option on the menu:Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer.

If you still get the same problem do this:
At the prompt, press F4 and select "Safe graphics mode".
then press F6.
Modify the following boot line:
"Boot Options seed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.gz quiet splash -" Delete the part that says "quiet splash "" -" and replace it with "vga=791 noreplace-paravirt"

That will make Ubuntu boot onto the GUI. After logging into Ubuntu Interface you should be able to see an installation folder on the desktop:

image-thumb36.png

Click on the Install folder. The installation wizard should come up:

Select the language and click Forward. Next Choose your location:

image-thumb38.png

Choose your city, and click Forward. Don't worry if the time zone is not OK, you can change that later when you login to Ubuntu.
Next, you will need to choose your Keyboard layout, if you are in the US, mostly all your options will be the default. If you are not in the US, choose your settings accordingly. Click Forward.

image-thumb39.png

Next, you will need to prepare the disk space, remember that you chose to use 10 GB of hard disk space for this virtual machine, so select the default option, Guided "" use the entire disk.

image-thumb40.png

Click Forward. Next, you will have fill out, your name, your username, password, and Computer name":

image-thumb41.png

After you have entered the info, click on Forward. Next, you will get a summary of the installation. Click Install to begin the installation:

image-thumb42.png

The installation should start.

image-thumb43.png

After 20 "" 30 minutes, the installation will finished, and will ask you if you want to reboot. At this stage Ubuntu is installed on your computer permanently.

image-thumb44.png

Click on Restart now. Now Ubuntu should be installed and ready to be used on your virtual PC

What format is the drive? FAT32 / NTFS / EXT3?

Have you tried using the 'Linux gparted' to see what part of the disk still needes to be formatted?

Ubuntu can be downloaded in an .iso file then put onto a cd for booting without installing.

This .iso can be got from:
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

The 32bit version can be used on most pc's. I am using cdBurnXP to burn my disks an find it very useful.

Have replaced hard drive and now wish to load UBUNTU operating system. How do I do that?

Download the Ubuntu DVD iso, create the DVD and then boot from the disc.

If you plan on dual booting Windows and Ubuntu, install Windows first leaving some disk space for Ubuntu, Ubuntu will then install and setup the correct boot sequence for you.
