These machines are virtuall impossible to block,
If the motor is running, ie you can hear it and the front brush roll is rotating, indicated by the green LED (light) on the left hand side then I would suggest the problem is with the bag or fan, Check the bag, take the inner bag out completely and turn the machine on, you should get good air flow out of the hose connection where the bag attached. if it is ok try a new bag.
Note the type of bag makes a big difference use only kirby bags, not cheap copies from the market.
If poor air flow, Large debris is captured at the bottom of the outer bag assembly, check this is clear by removing the outer bag, undo the clip at the top, twist at the bottom to detach from the vacuum, check inside for debris or blockage.
If it is not the bag check the condition of the fan, remove the front brush assembly and inspect the fan, usually a good indicator of a damaged fan is excessive noise.

The large hose inside the outer bag can also become blocked, once the outer bag is removed, check inside the inner hose, this is 2"-3" diameter and usually black or grey.

My dc24 wont pick up

Hi Leta,
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC24. If your machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to identify any issues:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1120&product=DC24-ALLFLOORS

In normal use, the filters in this machine need to be washed at least once a month, as shown in the video below. Please use cold water without any detergent, and make sure the filters are totally dry before you replace them. This may take at least 24 hours, and it can help to place them somewhere warm, such as by a radiator, or in an airing cupboard.
If you'd like further assistance or advice, please give us a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 0800 298 0298 (UK).

Best wishes,

Tip

How To Attach Carpet Shampooer To Your Kirby Generation 4 (G4) Upright.

Hello,

This is an excellent, easy to follow video presentation of attaching the carpet cleaner to your Kirby Generation 3 Upright Vacuum Cleaner. Please note that the model being used in the video is a newer model named the Sentria, but the process of attaching the carpet extractor attachment is identical on the Kirby Sentria and the Kirby Generation 4. The only major difference is that the Generation 4 does not have the lever that extends out to turn the belt to off. On the Generation 4 this is dont by turning the entire white square with the Kirby logo on it in the front of the vacuum cleaner.

Please feel free to ask for a repair clarification if you have a question on how to attach the carpet shampooer. I'm always, more then happy to answer any follow up questions there may be.

My dyson DC24 has very poor suction - all filters clean and hoses seem to be clear. had it for just over a year

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear your DC24 doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be. From your description of the issue, it sounds as if there may be a blockage in the machine - to locate and remove this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

You may also want to take a look at the video below to make sure you've washed the filters as we recommend. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing them. In normal use, this should be done at least once a month.

I hope this helps - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give our customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC24. If the machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, there may be a blockage somewhere - the filters may also need a wash.

The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

In normal use, the filters should be washed at least once a month, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you need any further assistance, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US) so we can help.

I have a hoover steam vac F5915-900 I bought at walmart about 4 months ago. I used it about 5 times in differnet rooms. Today when I went to use it It won;t pick up the dirty water. I cleaned the filter...

Make sure the suction area of the face plate is clear of all debris. If anything else, call the number on the machine, it's still under warrantee if the machine doesn't work from normal use.

I might buy a used Kirby Heritage II , my question is does it have drive tech

Kirby Heritage is not a self propelled vac...but the newer
G series 3-4-5 etc are. This is a rugged fan first vac, expensive to maintain if you are rough on it and bulky to use but it grooms the carpet nicely.
It is also a fan first vac, meaning everything hits the fan before being blown into the bag. Nothing larger than your fingernail should be picked up EVER or you will blow the fan. Maintain it and it should run a long time in wide open areas...

How to install Kirby g4 fan

It needs to be stripped completly down, if you are confident at doing this then here goes.
It has been a while for me so take your time and some of the steps may have to be completed slightly differently.
Isolate / unplug the machine from the mains
Remove the bag, handle and front roller assembly so you are left with a bare machine.
Remove the rear switch cover - 1 x screw.
remove the top aluminium cover 2 x screws at the back and 2 x screws at the front below the light.
You should now see the motor and tech drive.
Remove the tech drive, tech drive belt and rear wheels 4 x screws below the machine.
Remove the wiring to the motor noting the correct connections for putting back.
unscrew the motor 4 x screws inside (think) and two at the front below the fan aperature.
remove the motor and fan complete.
To remove the fan, note the hole through the fan shaft close to the belt position, this is for leverage when unscrewing the fan, hold the motor shaft, insert a small screw driver or punch through the shaft hole and unscrew to remove the fan.
Re-fit in reverse order.

so when u pull it back it's like it's not engaged at all? then it maybe the reverse is out....with the fwd soon to follow. remember the vac is 20yrs old; & working that long? it definately served it's purpose.
depending how much money you wanna spend on it buying a new or used trans. plus labor...or just an ebay used unit.

Kirby G5 - the Tech Drive does seem to have much power

you need either a new nutreal cam bracket assembly, that is what engages and disengages the tech drive.OR to adjust the handle pivot assy- diffucult . this is not for the faint of heart. it is possible to fix them as i used to repair kirbys, however, I remember how frustrating it was to figure out how to disassemble and reassemble them. it is very complicated to a novice. I would recomend having it repaired professionaly. it is possible for a professional to repair it in a very short period of time.

another thing to consider. look on the UNDERSIDE of your Kirby, between the two drive wheels. just in fronnt of the tech drive/nutreal switch. there should be a screw there, tighten that screw up. actually tighten all of them. on My generation 3 the center screw came loose and it would not go in to drive and it would make an aweful clatter. hope this was helpful
