With an MPC computer?

To avoid all the hassle, and possibility that Restoration Disk/s are not available, I would suggest you insert your new harddrive into an external enclosure.

The external enclosure has a USB cable, that you just plug into any available, unused USB port on your computer.

Desktop harddrives are approximately 3 and 1/2 inches, across in width. (3.5)

If this problem is in direct reference to an MPC desktop computer, with the MPN of 9052701, (Model Product Number), the harddrive used is an IDE style of harddrive.

IDE is also referred to as PATA.

This is an example of an IDE (PATA) 3.5 external enclosure,

This way your Operating System is still on the 80GB harddrive in your computer, and the new harddrive is used for storage.

(Windows XP is one example of an O/S. Operating System)

Iintend to change my sata hard drive to a SSD hard drive. How do I format before change

When you install Windows on your new SSD hard drive you can then transfer data from your old hard drive using an USB hard drive adapter or install the old hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an USB external hard drive after you have transferred your data to your laptop.
When you connect the USB hard drive adapter to the laptop, the laptop will see it as an external storage device, you can then open the various folders anf files and copy them to your new hard disk.

Change a hard drive

As a general rule, SATA drive like the DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB Hard Drive can be made either master or slave by just plugging the drive cable to the appropriate alternative SATA port on the motherboard without changing anything on the drive. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE PC FROM THE MAIN POWER FIRST! Most motherboard will have two such ports on the motherboard in close proximity to each other (just follow the 'flat' usually red or yellow cable from the SATA drive towards the motherboard to locate the ports). Hope it helps.
