Question about Coleman Propane Forced Air Heater w/Electronic Ignition (50,000-80,000 BTU)

PROPANE IGNITER We have had our igniter replaced twice in a year. The repair man said our washer shaking could make it go out. Is this correct? Where can we buy these igniters?? My husband watched him put it in, and our son-in-law is an electician. Thanks Bonnie

I have never seen one go bad because of a dryer. I would call heating companies in your area and ask them to sell a igniter.Have the brand, model and serial number for the heater. You could get one off the Internet to. I would pull out the igniter and make sure the screw is tight and that the deflector doesn't it the igniter

My 40-FAC heater will not ignite and run. The igniter has been replaced. What should I check next?

These models require electrical power to run the blower fan.
When you connect the electrical cord, the fan should turn on, then you should be able to start / ignite the propane. if the fan does not turn on when you connect the power cord, you will not be able to ignite the propane.

Where should the flame blow when janitrol furnace is ignite?Toward firewall?

It sounds like he incorrectly installed the igniter and it may be a huge danger to your home. A incorrectly installed igniter can cause a excess build up of gas and blow back flame or worst blow up your house. Only have a licensed heating and cooling contractor work on your furnace and not a handy man.

the 271n is a Trane round igniter and the 271nm is a Goodman flat igniter other than the shape and size there is no difference either will work fine allot of time if you touch the igniter surface with your fingers the oil of your skin will make them burn out faster (like a halogen light bulb) I would keep one around in case of emergencies but it's not something you should have to change annually they do break and burn out but if it glows and after you replace it and the furnace works fine there probably isn't another problem. You should be fine.

Hope this helps dont forget to rate me.............

Sounds like your gas valve is sticking. Your repair man is somewhat correct by meaning that the furnace will attempt to start 3 times before going out on "Lock-out". The furnace is reaching it's expected life and you will start experiencing more frequent issues with it. Check into some of the incentives to get a replacement with a higher efficiency rating. The newer units have greatly improved in performance as well as comfort.

How to install an igniter?

if the heater uses a hot surface igniter its a simple matter of unscrewing the igniter and replacing it with another unit. if it is a spark ignition, the spark wire is a heavy insulated wire that goes to the gap. check out white-rodgers for a replacement. if your furnace uses a purge mode get a purge cycle programmable igniter.
