Question about Maytag Atlantis MDE6400AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

When drying clothes, there is a loud banging noise, almost like if the clasp to overalls is hitting the inside of the dryer. Right now I am drying towels, so there is nothing metal or hard that could be hitting around, but I am still hearing that noise.

Hi,

Check all exposed screws, and make sure they are tight. Loose cabinet screws may cause a banging sound. Make sure nothing is loose inside the drum. Remove the lint trap and look below the lint trap holder for any loose items that may have slipped through the cracks.
Check to see if the drum is supported on wheels or rollers. Sometimes these can wear and require replacement.

Good luck and have a nice day

It may be something stuck in the drum, ie a bra wire, which would have extra weight on it whilst the clothes are wet. If this is the case, it will need looking at sooner, rather than later, as it will just be causing further internal damage

First, check the vane's (paddles inside the drum) to see if one is loose. Post back the results.

I was drying my clothes and heard a loud bang and the dryer started making a weird noise so i shut it off then turned it back on and it kept doing it then the drum just stopped moving completely

The sound was probably the spring tensioner hitting the chassis when the belt broke.
the dryer needs a new belt. Without knowing the model, hard to describe disassembly
You might be able to get a good maintenance tech off hours who can do this reasonably
by checking on Fixya or Craigslist as it can be a bit of a nuisance. Approximately
an hour to do and around 7 to 10 dollars for the belt.

We have an estate by whirlpool dryer that quit working. During last cycle it made a loud bang noise that ended the dry cycle and the clothes inside were dry. When we tried to restart it, it wouldn't...

The fuse is tied into the door switch circuit and looks like this:

Unplug the dryer and remove the rear cover. All the heater components is back there.

You probably need to remove the back cover and look into the dryer that way.

Post if you need anything else.

Banging Noise in Kenmore Dryer

There are two rollers that hold the drum in place. I'm betting that one of those rollers have broken or fallen off. It's not a very easy fix since you'll have to take the dryer completely apart to fix it. Good luck!

Dryer makes alot of noise when drying clothes.

First you will have to locate the two screws inside the dryer. Open the door and look up inside the trim around the opening of the dryer. Take them out then the top of the dryer will come right out. Look at the very from of the dryer. There should be 4 small "slides" attached to a trim piece. If there are any missing that is probably your problem. I just went through this problem. The pieces each are no longer than an 2" each but cost almost 8.00 a piece. They are easy to replace though. You might also have to replace the whole trim piece as I did because it was completely worn out. Very easy to replace.
