Read disk error occured during rebooting

The model of my PC is ACER Aspire e571 which was bought last October 2007..recently i encountered slow response in every applications that i want to work on and was frequently shutting down unexpectedly while i'm at the middle of an application. so i consulted that issue to an IT technician was told me to try to recover using my recovery disk..and when i finished the first disk and was adviced to insert the next disk..it so happened that the said disk cannot read and ejected. I tried many times of inserting the next disk but unfortunately not accepted. Later i pressed the ESC button to leave the said application but it wasnt rebooting and was described as...read disk error occured.

Please help me to resolve the issue. Am looking forward for any help you can extend. Thank you and more power.

The acer recovery software sometimes has it's glitches. The CD might be fine, its just the data that wa written to the disk @ time of recovery creation was corrupt at some point.

If your machine shuts down randomly there can be only 3 possible solutions to this one:

  1. Your battery from your laptop has an issue. Try letting the laptop run on AC power ONLY.
  2. Your CPU is overheating, caused by a broken or unresponsive CPU heat sink fan, which causes your pc to shutdown (will always auto- shutdown at a certain temperature to prevent damage to the CPU. Check if you can feel "air" coming out of your laptop, suppose to be a hatched outlet at the side or at the back or on the top cover.
  3. You have a Virus that is shutting down the pc when it wants to. NO Operating system issue can cause your PC to shutdowb; only a virus can do that.
Summary, check your battery, check if your CPU fan is running, and make a virus scan (if the pc doesnt shut down). Remember to make a backup of your DATA, cause Acer (i dont think they will) don't do backups. Waranty on Acers is usually 3 years, depending on the country. So they should replace and repair, everything.

check bios at boot for any 'hard disk detection' options to see if the drive is actually getting power and being recognized by the system. If it is, it may likely be the boot record, which will require a reload or restore.

Restore to factory settings:

If you want to restore your computer to its original settings without

recovery CDs.

Note: If your system is the multilingual version, the operating

system and language you choose when you first turn on the

system will be the only option for future recovery operations.

This recovery process helps you restore the C: drive with the original software

content that is installed when you purchase your notebook. Follow the steps

below to rebuild your C: drive. (Your C: drive will be reformatted and all data

will be erased.) It is important to back up all data files before using this option.

Before performing a restore operation, please check the BIOS settings.

1 Check to see if Acer disk-to-disk recovery is enabled or not.

2 Make sure the D2D Recovery setting in Main is Enabled.

3 Exit the BIOS utility and save changes. The system will reboot.

Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.

To start the recovery process:

1 Restart the system.

2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to

enter the recovery process.

3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.

I rebooted and used the system recovery discs from the Geek Squad and now it won't read the Windows Vista system disc. Any ideas?

Telephone ACER, and order the correct set of "System Restore" CD/DVD disks for your model of computer -- since the computer was factory-shipped with a valid copy of Windows, ACER will ship a "replacement" to you, for just the cost of shipping.

Re-install Windows from that set of disks.

Check the BIOS configuration to see if the hard disk is detected.
If it is not detected then most likely it is faulty. If you can boot up with a DOS disk and run FDISK and if FDISK cannot see the hard drive then it is faulty. Then you need to replace the hard disk.
