SOURCE: Answering drops call when answering

I have had the same problem when trying to connect the GE-29569 to my PBX. The PBX manufacturer suggested the the answering machine might be pulling too much power, which would result in a dropped call. I have not resolved this problem yet. However, the machine works fine when connected to my home line, but still does not work with the PBX. Since both work fine separately, I can only assume that power requirement might be the problem. SOURCE: Answering machine doesn't pick-up reliably

I found in the manual that if the machine doesn't answer after the correct number of rings, then it may be the ringing system used by the phone company. But I have also heard of people with VOIP (such as Vonage) having problems with this as well.

THE ANSWERING SERVICE CUTS IN BEFORE I AM ABLE TO GET TO THE PHONE

There should be a switch towards the bottom on the right hand side
Setting ring time switch The ring time/toll saver switch allows you to set the number of rings the caller hears before the answering system plays your outgoing message. You can set the switch to answer af ter two rings or af ter four rings. Once the greeting has star ted, you can stop it when you pick up the call at the handset or base. In the TS (Toll Saver) position, the answering system picks up af ter two rings if you have new messages, and af ter four rings if there is none. This way, if you call long distance to check your messages, you can hang up af ter the third ring to avoid billing charges.

You have to set the fax to at least one more ring than the answer machine. When the phone rings the fax wakes up and listens after the answer machine picks up, if it hears a fax it will take over and print the fax.

Set your answering machine to pick up after four rings2.gif . This will give the fax machine enough time to take the call if it senses that it's an incoming fax. Setting the answering machine to pick up after four rings would give the fax machine enough time to accept the fax.
hope this was helpful .

#1739 answering machine hooked up but keeps asking for "password"

The unit appears to be stuck in "message retrieval mode) and is asking for your password to give you access when you call in(remote answering). You need to return the unit to it's factory default settings. If you don't still have the instructions you can get them here:http://telephones.att.com/docMgt/public/art/309494/1739_manual.pt2.pdf. Hope this helps!

Incoming faxes not received, all else works.

Hi there,

It is your phone answering machine that must pick up in three rings or less.

Therefore 4 is too much. I would not limit number for fax machine itself.

On receipt of fax sometimes seems like it will not work when answering machine picks up in the middle. However, leave it and it will work. Sometimes sender will hear your answering machine and cancel as well. So try to ensure they don't give up at other end as well.

Good Luck!

Increase the # of rings before the fax picks up so that it's greater than the # of rings before the answering machine picks up. When you're expecting a fax, turn off the answering machine.
