Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Canon MP830 Hi, Melod. Did you ever resolve the issue with your MP830's scanner? I've been troubleshooting this forever and cannot seem to resolve it. Just stopped working one day.  I've downloaded the latest drivers from Canon. No luck.

Wow...thank you very much, Melody.  I would really appreciate that.

Now that you mention this, I did experience a power surge here...in fact it fried the elements in our electric hot water heater!

So...we may have the same issue.

Again, thank you for your kind offer. I would really appreciate knowing what the repair person finds.

My Canon mp830 is under warranty, so I took it to an official repair place rather than try to sort out its problem myself. I understand these are sensitive to power fluctuations. Mine may of experienced this. If you wish, I will get a detailed explanation for you of what the repairman found wrong when my mp830 is returned to me.- Melody

Hi is it possible to change the scanner lamp on a CANON MP830 ? TKS

Alas you cannot get the lamp on its own. The scanner comes as a complete assy under the part number QK1-2222-000.

Once you have the covers off its just a case of swopping the scanners over. there is no setup of the scanner. Its just works. Well hopefully...

I am not 100% sure on this but I do know that most printers and scanners when straight out of the box sometimes have tape or some foam that they use to keep the bits that move around from moving. I would check your manual from end to end and if you dont find anything in it then I would contact tech support for Canon as it may be that this is a bug of some sort that they may already have a fix for.

I have a MP830 and when I try to scan in a doc. to my mac, it takes forever. I get this message "Processing calibration data from a scanner. Do not open the document cover."

The greater the detail setting the scanner is set to scan at, the greater will be the time taken to complete the scan process.

Lowering the detail settings may reduce the time taken to scan a document.
These settings may be found in the software that came with your printer.

I am trying to add my mp830 printer to my new HP computer

If you have a new HP computer, I'm assuming it's running Windows 7? You should just be able to plug it it with the USB cable. Windows 7 will automatically install it for you. If it doesn't, browse to Canon's website to download the appropriate printer driver.

I got an error message 5010 when I was trying to fax, but can't find in the manual I have what 5010 is and how to resolve it. Thanks you!

5010 is a scanner error that you can get if the scanner lock is locked, and also if you put a heavy book on the glass and stop the scanner. Canon only sells the scan assembly as a whole unit around $150.00

Canon PIXMA MP830 Error Message: Scanner is not operating correctly.

This problem sucks. It sounds like the scanner has actually gone bad. This can be a couple of things. The actual ccd unit inside the scanner, a position sensor, a motor or a wire harness.

The latter two are fairly unlikely, the first two more likely. Most probable is the CCD unit. I don't think Canon sells it as a separate piece, but it comes inside a replacement scanner assembly. These complete scanner units are expensive. You'll have to check with your local Canon shop to see what they cost.
