Question about Computers & Internet

Freezes or won't open programs after running a few hours

My Windows XP computer has had a problem for about two weeks. It runs well for half a day or longer. Then it starts being unable to open any programs, sometimes coming up with a message about inadequate resources. If I restart, frequently just a blinking cursor comes up, but if I shut down and start it up again a minute later, it runs normally until the next breakdown. Any suggestions as to what is wrong? Hard drive and memory are new about 9 months ago.

Delete the temporary files form the computer. To do so Click Start-> Run-> type %temp%-> hit enter. Select everything and delete it.

Same way delete the temporary files from windows well. Click My computer-> Local Disk-> Windows-> temp

Also delete prefatch under windows. ClickMy computer-> Local Disk-> Windows-> prefatch.

**If this works please rate else let me know in case of further help.**

My computer runs really slow, freezes, internet explorer hardly ever works. help!!

There is no such thing as a windows vista machine. You can install different operating systems on different machines. Your problem is most likely that you're missing drivers for the peripherals.
Download a program called "driver easy" and run it. It will tell you what drivers are missing, once you get all the drivers installed you should find things work better, like once you get your network running then internet explorer will stop having problems.

Still life will not run on windows 7/XP, will run on 98,but freezes up, troubleshooted compatibility and says missing dll

Here is the solution ..worked for me on windows 7 ultimate....

  • Right click the shortcut, properties and select the compatibility tab.
  • Change the program to run as WinNT 4.0 (not 98 or xp as these WON'T work).
  • Then check the box 'disable visual themes'.
  • (Unnecessary?) Check the box 'disable desktop composition' (to ward off evil spirits).
  • Lastly check the box to run this program as an admin (since windows still doesn't and probably never can have a decent security infrastructure that would allow you to run programs and games without running them with admin rights).
  • Apply and OK. Now you can run the game.

After updating drivers IBM laptop won t boot freezes

Run the Check Disk Utility

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Computer freezes when trying to access My Computer in any program

Could be a program running in background. Try to go to msconfig ( click on start, run, and type msconfig). On the startup items, disable all and reboot. See if the performance improves. If it does, enable startup program on msconfig one by one and reboot. to check what startup item is causing the slow performance. If it does not improve, might be an unnecessary driver for the system. Reinstall windows xp.

Why my scrabble complete infogrames will not work on my OS Window 7 Is there something I can do? The game load perfectly, but when I try to play the game it freezes up.

I tried the solution below and it worked for me. I am running Windows 7, 64-bit
Download the NO CD patch from this site:

http://m0003.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_scrabble_complete.shtml

It is an rar file and not the typical zip. The freeware program 7-Zip can extract it if do not have a zip program that will work (Free download from most Freeware sites).

Extract the Scrabblecomplete.exe file and copy it to the directory in which the program resides. Let it overwrite the original. You will no longer need to insert the disc to run the program and it should work without freezing. Mine has been fine for the last few days of extended playing.

Do you have Windows XP or Vista first of all?

There are a lot of compatibility issues when you are running more than one version of Spyware programs. As well as Inuit, AOL, Zone Alarm and a few other.

You may want to uninstall any other version of Spyware software if that is the case on an XP machine.

If it is a Vista machine, to make sure you have downloaded the newest patch as well as remove any other spyware programs.

I would suggest add/remove programs one by one, then rebooting to see if you can run your program. Delete programs you are not using anyway.

Let me know how it' goes..

Make sure all of the fans inside your computer are still functioning. One of them could have stopped working and it is causing the card to over heat.
