First, you need 2 make sure if all your LAN devices are installed correctly on your laptop: To do this , right click on "My Computer" then select Manage from the menu that appeared. A window will open. Search and Locate then left-click "Device Manager" in the left colum. The right coloum should now contain many things. These things are all the devices that are installed in your system. To see if one or more of them are not working properly, there would be yellow, black or red exclimation marks (warnings) next or above their icons. If you do not see any exclmarks, then everything is working well.

Next, you'll have to change or edit your a.) IP address, b.) Network ID, c) WORKGROUP.

Inorder for your LT to communicate on a network, your LT must either have a static or an automatic ip address. An static IP means, that you as a user, specify an IP address and an automatic IP address will be "assigned" to you by the "server".
To check if you have an static or an auto IP click on start, then on "My network Places".A new windows should have opened now and 2 your left you should find the "View Network connection" globe icon. If you click on it the Network connections should appear in the right window. Right click on your Lan (Network Adapter) icon and select "Properties". Scroll down in the list 2 the bottom, to reach the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", then click on it once and then click on the "properties" tab to open it. A small window shouls appear, You will see an option that says "Optain IP address automatically" and "use the following Ip address" If you are on a "home network, it would be better 2 use your own... IP: 192.168.0.202 , SN: 255.255.255.0
We shall leave The Gateway box blank for now because that would belong to internet configerations like asdl or idsn.
If you are on a corporate, business Network, then it is most likely an automatic IP address.

Inorder for your LT to communicate on a network, your LT must be member of a "Workgroup" or a "Domain". To check your "member" configerations, right click my computer and select properties, then click on the "computer name" tab. Your OS should indicate: Your Computer desc, your Full computer name and Workgroup. If you are on a home/private little network, each entity in your LAN must have the SAME workgroup but each must have a UNIQUE IP. If you are on a corporate/business network, you will be added to a domain. To change your settings, click on the "Change..." button at the bottom right of the window. A new windows should appear and you can change to the settings you want.

Now, we have to test connectivity and if your IP and LAN are set up. To do this, click on start, click on run, then type in "cmd" without the quotes. A command prompt windows should now appear, so you will type in "Ipconfig". The output should show you your network connections, their MAC addreses and their IP addresses. Next type in the following "ping ::1" or "ping localhost", without the quotes. In this way, we test if OUR network is up. Now we need to check if we can see or info other computers on the network. FInd out another computers IP or Computer name thats on the network. Then type in "ping COMPUTERNAMEORIP" where computername or ip is the computername or the ip of the other computer without the quotes. you will see something like this when successful :
Reply from 176.16.63.80: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=127
Reply from 176.16.63.80: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=127
Reply from 176.16.63.80: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=127
Reply from 176.16.63.80: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=127
Now you know that your LAN is working.

You will also need to check your firewall settings and if you have file and printer sharing enabled.

Kind Regards
Stef

You can hook up any computer/laptop to a wireless router via LAN cable or by wireless connection.
For a wireless connection each computer/laptop needs a wireless card and the wireless card driver installed and the wireless card needs to be configured with the router's wireless settings.

My toshiba laptop does not work on a lan. The icon

When you look at the Manage Network Connections link on the Network and Sharing Center you do not see
Local Area Connection?
Do you see Wireless Network connection?
You need to check the device manager to see if the card has been disabled.

It should show two entries with no red or yellow marks. One for wireless (WLAN) and one for wired (Ethernet)

My compaq presario 700 notebook cannot connect to internet thru neither cable nor wireless. It happened overnight. How I can check and solve this issue? Please help~~~

First of all, make sure your internet service is working. Then check your Network Connections in the Control Panel. Next could be your modem or wireless card is bad. Since I don't know if your main computer has internet, etc., I can't say anymore than that. If you take it into Best Buy, they might be able to replace the wireless care with a good one, to check the card. Good luck.

Bought a G Wireless USB Network Adapter, on install when it asks to plug it in the computer cant find it, then I get a error message that I need to instal the network card

To configure the wireless router, it needs to be connected to a computer with a LAN cable. Therefore the computer needs a LAN card and the LAN card driver installed and if you need to connect a laptop or computer to the router by wireless then the laptop or computer needs a wireless card plus the wireless card driver.
To configure the wireless router and wireless cards in the laptop or computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Local Area Network UNPLUGGED...?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should start with checking to see if there is an updated driver for your network card. If not try removing the network adapter under the device manager and restarting the computer. If that doesn't work email me and I'll give you a few more ideas.

Please don't forget to rate!

Lan card toshiba wireless no working

Check this Tip for an overview
  1. Connect your PC to your router using LAN Cable: be sure you can browse internet
  2. If you cannot browse check router config with your ISP
  3. Connect to your router using IP address you find for gateway in Network status
  4. Configure your router wireless section to match with your PC card
  5. Start removing security, broadcast radio signal, create a simple SSID as network name
  6. Check if router network is seen by your PC card (when you disconnect the LAN cable and activate the wireless card)
  7. If connection is established ( near the router) try different location
  8. Reconnect cable and reconfig adding security protocol (WPA-PSK recommended) use parameters compatible with your lan card

NO WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER

I have just checked the specs of your laptop and it says that these come standard with a wireless network card.

What problem are you having in regards to wireless?

Some laptops have a switch (generally on the front or sides) that needs to be activated before the wireless card is "enabled" in the operating system. You will need to refer to the owners manual for the location of this switch.

My laptop cannot connect to my local network (LAN)

Assuming you initially set up the router using the wired lan adapter and lead, enabled DHCP in the settings. First stand right next to your router; Dells wireless is a little tempremental, go to control panel and in there should be Dell wireless monitor, open this up refresh it and see if it finds any wireless networks, if so try to connect. Dissable your wired network lan adapter. Go to the properties of your wireless card and on the TCP/IP line click properties again and ensure that obtain an ip address automatically is selected, press ok and restart the pc.
