I'm not mechanically-inclined, but the frustration of an oven handle hanging by one side prompted me to try to become mechanical. Remove the entire door from the oven by working the hinges. Then put it on a flat surface (I used a pool table) and let the hinges act as a shim. Remove the bolts from the bottom edge and lift out the main panel and the end flanges. Carefully set the glass aside and it's an opportune time to clean it. You'll see two bolts which hold the door handle assembly in-place. Upon removing those, you'll finally be able to get at those interior door handle bolts. One of mine was missing a lock washer. I found adequate replacement parts and then reversed the process to re-assemble the door and place it back on the oven. This seems to be a common defect with this model, and it's unfortunate that the handle's bolts can't be assessed more easily, but when you go at it systematically, it wasn't as difficult as I had feared.

Is it still safe to use as the light is broken, I have tried 3 bulbs.

Hello Carol;

My name is Peter. I am retired field service appliance technician.

Your oven requires a special oven utility bulb. If you have used common house hold bulbs they can not handle the heat.

Lets assume you did use a special utility bulb. On the face of your oven when you open the door is a little plunger button (Switch). This is may be a dual activation switch if you have a self cleaning feature. So, you will have either one circuit for the light or two circuits, one for self cleaning and one for the light.

The circuit for the light is a separate circuit and is strictly for the light to turn on when you open the door and turn off when you close the door. You can operate your oven safely without the light working.

You may have a short, but I will bet on a bad oven door switch.

Go into the following website and put in your model number. You will get diagrams and component part numbers.

Your model number is located on a label either on the face of the oven when you open the oven door or on the side of the door. Water Filters Lawn Garden Appliance Parts

Replece glass oven door kitchenaid kebs278dss8

Oven doors have at least two panes of glass (air gap between so little ones touching outer glass do not get burned). You remove the screws around edges of door (top, sides, & bottom) and lift frame up and forward to get outer face off. The glass in ovens is tempered to take heat so you can not just use regular glass. You will find outer piece is sometimes the entire size of door but is painted black with the "dot" pattern that lines up with inner piece. Once you get face / frame off you will usually find the handle screws and mounts for inner glass. Sometimes inner glass sealed with high temp sealant. But make sure you use correct glass or someone could get hurt.

Door handle fell off of oven

Rachel, every range oven door I've seen, that was built in the last 20 years comes off the range by opening it about 6 - 8 in. from the top of the door frame, taking a firm grip on both sides about 8 - 10 in. down, bend the knees slightly, get a good grip on the door and pull up sharply. The door should release from the spring hinge on each side. Once you have it out you can lay it flat on the kitchen table, (preferably on a towel or cloth of some sort), with the inside facing up. There should be several screws that hold the interior portion of the door to the outer portion. If you remove these screws you should be able to remove the inner portion of the door, by pulling straight up, easily, and put it on the floor or if there's room, on the counter or table. Now you should be able to locate the holes the screws go into, to hold the handle on the door. If they connect from the interior, you should have found them when the interior was off the first time. Take them and install the handle. If there are none, find some chatterproof washers and put one on the inner side of each screw to keep them from loosening again. Once you have the handle secured to the door you should be able to put it back together. After you have assembled the two halves of the oven door, make sure the two hinge assemblies are pulled away from the frame of the oven at approx. a 35 degree angle. This is necessary to have the proper clearance to allow the door to slide down onto the hinges and grab on inside. The door should slide right down over the two hinges and then you can close it up.

WHILE MAKING HOT CHOCOLATE THE OTHER DAY, THE MILK BOILED OVER AND SOME OF THE MILK WENT THREW THE SLITS AT THE TOP OF THE OVEN DOOR BETWEEN THE TWO GLASSES IN THE DOOR. IS THERE ANY WAY TO OPEN UP THE...

First, you will need a heavy blanket to place the door on once you have removed it from the oven. Open the door slightly, until it stays open by itself, about 15 degrees. Lift the oven door off of the hinges and place on the heavy blanket. (The hinges may snap shut when you pull the door up and off, but this is actually normal. It takes a bit of finesse to get the door back on the hinges if they will not stay out.)

Remove the 4 screws across the bottom of the door. Next, stand the door up with the bottom on the blanket and the front facing you.(Hold the door by gripping firmly around the middle edges to maneuver door)

Now, while holding the handle, remove the 2 screws that hold the handle on, unscrewing them just enough until the handle is free. (You do not want the spacers dropping off the screws) Hold the door together with one hand while placing the handle out of your way.

Once again, grab the door firmly by the middle outer edges and lie the door down, the inside facing down. You should be able to lift up the outer panel and glass and clean the inside of the outer glass.

Reverse the above procedure to reassembly the door. You can also take the door apart further if you have stains inside the other glasses. Here is a link to a schematic for your oven door.

Wall oven, the front of the door has fallen off - glued on by the looks. So now instead of handle and window I now have one glass panel. I need to re glue it I presume. What glue would I use.

I am afraid that yours is a common problem. The front glass normally has some small brackets glued to the inside face, which then locate into the door frame.

Whirlpool glass door exploded in my face! A serious defect!

I would go to a Lawyer unless you have a serious voltage problem. Whirlpool makes pretty good appliances. To have probems with all of them is very unusual. Look for a comon problem. You have not stated your outher problems. I have heard about oven glass breaking with no reason.
