Does the primer bulb pump fuel into the bulb quickly (3 or 4 pumps)? Check the fuel filter, air filter and muffler for plugging. Is the fuel fresh and properly mixed with a modern synthetic oil at 50:1 ratio? When it quits, remove the spark plug and test for blue, snappy spark. If it looks weak, try anew plug first (gapped at 0.020"), then remove the left side cover to expose the flywheel and the ignition module. Turn the flywheel magnets under the poles of the module, insert a thin business card into the gap, loosen the module screws and allow it to contact the magnets. Re-tighten the screws and rotate the flywheel to roll out the card. Turn the flywheel one full turn to make sure the gap doesn't close up. Test again for spark. If much better, replace the cover and pour a little fuel mix into the plug hole. Replace the plug and pull through--it should pop several times (and maybe even run correctly). If it at least pops, then concentrate on the fuel system. Check the fuel lines for rot or damage. Make sure the carburetor fasteners are tight. If still having problems, disassemble the carburetor and clean it with spray carburetor cleaner. Check the lower diaphragm for hardness or cracking. Have the jet screws been adjusted? Hope some of this helps!

My Poulan is a 2250. After start up, in a minute, it starts pulling down like it is running out of fuel, When I crack open the gas cap it takes off again. The flapper check inside the gas cap is opening when spraying through it with carb cleaner. How else do you check the cap????

This question should have been entered as a fresh inquiry, not appended to someone else. Try a fresh fuel cap is my answer.

I have a 1998 dodge dokota pickup 3.9 liter engine that want start can somone help me?

reset the computer ... by disconnecting the battery competely (positive AND negative) AND LEAVE IT DISCONNECT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES. Then turn everything OFF in the vehicle (AC, Radio, etc....) reconnect Negative terminal first then positive. Don't crank it yet!! Turn the key to on position and leave it there for 1 minute..then off for 1 minute... Do that 3 times. No crank it up. If still no fire you need and ignition module.. get a refund on the cam sensor..they rarely are the problem.. (even though the diagnostics seem to point a finger at them quite regularly).... One last thing DON'T GO PAYING FOR A NEW MODULE...Call a scrap yard and they each probably have a room full of them.. cost you say $20-$40. Hope this info helps!

ECHO PB-500T - Stopped running and added gas fuel mix. Quit running again with full tank and now flywheel is stuck and I can't pull to start it. What is the problem?

My $350 Echo PB-500T seized up. I almost cried.

The solution was to drain the fuel tank.

  • Refill fuel tank with an 2-cycle Oli/gas mixture.

  • 40:1 =3.2 oz to one-gallon gas, do not use Alcohol base gas.

  • Remove the spark plug.

  • Pour approximate 1/8 oz 2-cycle Oli into the spark plug hole.

  • Remove the pull cord assembly (4-bolts)

  • This reviled the crank shaft-Pull cord bracket

  • I use a large monkey wrench to turn the shaft (CW) Clock-wise.

  • Complete approximate 20 revolutions.

  • Reassemble, but don't install the spark plug yet.

  • Complete approximate 20 more revolutions

    by pulling the pull cord.

  • Use q-tips to swab the top of the piston, as much as possible.

  • Install the spark-plug and crank, it will smoke for amount 7-10 minutes

It should start easily, start with fresh fuel/oil, pump the primer as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb, pull the choke fully out, crank the engine until it fires once, push the choke fully in and crank again until it fires up, after re fueling a warm engine, pump the primer again until it 3/4 fills the bulb, before cranking the engine pull the choke fully out and in again( this will engage the part throttle ) then crank the engine until it fires up.

It will take 20-30 minutes of cranking the engine before it will start. It always take about that long and I don't know what does happen to make it start. The fuel pump primes, I have spark at the plugs. ...

spray wd40 when first starting; if it fires. then there is a problem getting gas, check fuel pump. some are in the carb. check fuel lines..... you get the idea.
check spark; lets just say you did and it is good otherwise you would not be asking.
check compression, check compression WET (with ONE squirt of oil in cilinder) check compression when hot after running.
what i am going for here is the intake valve could easily be gooped up enough to hold it open until you beat it into submission with twenty minutes of cranking. you could try carb cleaner or the like (when running) but pulling the valves and grinding/lapping them is the real cure.
you could pull the carb and look at the valve and clean some of the stem there but that is another half measure.
