Basically it means that if the device which is causing the error has added its own custom error text to your Windows system when the device was installed, then when the device encounters an error, you will see the custom error message specific to that device. But if it doesn't have its own custom error message, then Windows uses its own generic error message for devices, which is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" Microsoft recommends that when this happens, you click "Update Driver" to update the drivers for the device. You can also start the Windows troubleshooting wizard by going to the general properties tab of the device, and clicking on "Troubleshoot".
Before doing this, be sure that you have the correct and most up-to-date versions of the driver(s) for your CD/DVD Drive. You can also try uninstalling and reinstalling the device, using the disk which came with it. When doing this, make sure to restart your computer. This may help clear up the problem.
Finally, you can go to the website of the device's manufacturer, and check their download or support section for current, up-to-date drivers and patch kits.

This COULD solve your issue, although it IS risky...

A) Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)

B) Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

C) On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

D) Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

E) On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

F) Quit Registry Editor.

G) Restart your computer.

Kind Regards,
Stef

My aspire ax3400 wont load disks

Are you saying your CD/DvD drive does not read any disks? If so, are you using disks that a friend made (put music on it) or are you using store bought disks (purchased a music cd from a store)? Most computers have problems with disks made by someone else at one time or another.

Click Start/My Computer and look to see if your CD/DvD drive is showing up in the list. If not, that's the problem. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Case, then remove the two cables that plug into the CD/DvD drive then put them back in securely. Sometimes the drive just needs to be reseated. Now see if the computer see it in My Computer and if it will Read your Disks.

When you boot your machine, look and listen for the CD drive to make a click and the light on the cd drawer comes on for a second or two. That means the drive is recognized by the computer.

If all fails, Maybe your drive is broken and needs to be replaced.

check to see that it is listed under MyComputer, if not, go to device manager and see if it is listed and working normally.
If so, the drive may be defective and will need replacing.
I hope this helped.

My cd rom keeps saying no disc and the computer

First thing to try is to clean the DVD lense. a lense cleaner can be purchased any from Best-Buy to Wal-Mart. It's essentially a CD with a built in brush. This will clean the lense.

if that doesn't work, it may be time to replace the drive. DVD-ROM drives can be purchased for as little as $20 now, it may be worth your time to just replace it. It is possible that the motor that spins the DVD has gone bad, but it is highly unlikely.

Replace the Cd-rom drive, sounds like you may have a bad spindle motor and or Laser assembly. Cd-roms are very cheap these days, and you might consider replacing it with a DVD drive instead, which is downward compatiable.

My CD/DVD Drive has sudenly stopped working.In the devive manager the code error is 10. The model of the computer is GM5066B and the serial no. GSG7211000075. Same problem on a Compaq Presario SR5213 with...

Things to check
1. See if the drive is identified properly in BIOS, if it is not, reseat all cables and try agian.
2. Can you boot to the drive using a bootable CD (XP CD or such) If the drive functions outside Windows, then it is a software issue. If it doesn't boot to bootable media, then you most likely have a hardware issue.
If you can boot to the CD, then try booting to the safe mode, removing the drive from device manager then remove the upper/lower filters in the registry then reboot in to the normal mode.
