Go to windows page on and download updates. You can also access updates from Internet Explorer tools. There are several optional updates as well that will give you Vista-like features. Thanks for rating FixYa!

Fazan, the replies to issues on are normally posted only on the web site. In this way, others can benefit from the same information, and you can also provide your feedback regarding the quality of response. It also serves to protect your privacy by not making your e-mail address public. Upon sending this to you via e-mail, I will post a copy on the site, and hope you will feel comfortable rating the response as FixYa (meaning “The solution provides great advice on how to solve the problem.”

In regard to the issue of updates, if you go to, you will find the location for downloading updates. In case you aren’t aware, Service Pack 1 has been released for Vista, and can be obtained through the Update site as well. Service packs are major updates, as you likely know. However, the update site will scan your PC and determine what critical updates need to be applied, and what optional updates are available. Then you must choose what to download and install. (It is always wise to do a full backup before doing this, and establish a restore point, just in case.) You should be aware, however, that if you have set Automatic Updates to download and install automatically (in your Computer Properties/Windows Update), these should already be downloaded and applied. Your message does not indicate one way or the other, and if you need further help with these settings, just post back and I will guide you through that.

Now, regarding your statement that you “just want to make my pc look graphicar..... so dat it looks dffrnt from others pc”, there are innumerable ways for you to customize the appearance of your desktop and its graphics, making it unique and special for you. One of the ways to do this is by working on your desktop alone: right-click in a blank area of the display screen, and select the properties from the available choices that appeal to you most. This is the way you can change many of the various aspects of your display and its appearance, including various graphical components such as aero/3D features, window and component attributes, sidebar and gadgets, hover state, the background (which could even be a photo or other digital image of your choice), icons, and thumbnails to name a few.

Additionally, Windows for some time has used themes, which are collections of basic attributes based upon which users can further customize if desired. Themes for Vista are addressed at (just one of many sites). More detail regarding establishing themes can also be found at and associated pages.

You have raised several issues here, and I have given you references to a number of choices for improving your PC’s appearance and graphical features. Windows Vista Ultimate is the highest level of the Vista series, and accordingly, has the greatest selection of high-end features. Because of this, it also has the greatest requirements for hardware and system capacity. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you understand the impact of your choices on the performance of your system, and that the customized choices do not overwhelm your system’s resources.

Hopefully, this detailed response will provide you with sufficient information to accomplish what you want to with your PC, at least as much as possible based on your equipment. Therefore, I would hope that we have reached a FixYa level of rating for this assistance. If not, and you have further questions on this same matter, please post more details / questions, and I will attempt to help you with them. Thanks for rating this response as FixYa!

These alternatives should have provided you with a variety of possibilities for making your machine unique - do you think that we have reached a FixYa rating? Thanks so much.

No maps found

When your tom tom comes up with the no maps found error message. There are several causes to the problem.
If you updated your map using the latest map guarantee and then get the error No maps found, make sure you install the latest version of the TomTom application.
Check for the latest application: Connect your navigation device or memory card to your computer and click Update my device in TomTom HOME to check if a new application is available.
You can check the version of your application in TomTom HOME. Connect your device and then click Manage my device and select the Items on my device tab. Expand Applications and then click More info.
Your map may require the latest version of the TomTom application.
Check for the latest application Connect your navigation device or memory card to your computer and click Update my device in TomTom HOME to check if a new application is available.
HOME may not immediately offer the latest application version when installing a downloadable map on a blank memory card. Re-connect your memory card to HOME and check for the latest application by clicking Update my device in HOME. HOME this time offers the latest application for your device. Try Installing maps on a new memory card
You can check the version of your application in TomTom HOME. Connect your device and then click Manage my device and select the Items on my device tab. Expand Applications and then click More info.
You need to also make sure all files are in the right places. Browse the content of your navigation device:
Windows XP: Click Start > My Computer and then double-click the removable drive of your device.
Windows 7 / Windows Vista: Click the Windows start button > Computer and then double-click the removable drive of your device.
Mac OS X: Double-click the desktop icon of your navigation device.
Check the following:
The map folder (e.g. Western_Europe) needs to be located in the root directory of your navigation device or memory card. This means the map folder may not be inside another folder. Before you move the map folder we recommend that you create a manual backup.
The map folder needs to contain at least the following files
cline.dat cname.dat cnode.dat faces.dat mapinfo.dat poi.dat tables.dat tmccodes.dat traffic.dat .meta (map v705 or higher will have/need this file) .meta.dct (map v705 or higher will have/need this file) .pna
If any of these files are missing restore a previously made backup or re-install your map to your device (in TomTom HOME click Add Traffic, Voices, Safety Cameras etc. > Items on my computer).
Hpe this was helpful. Thanks for using fixya.

Copy a driver AND its exact settings from one computer to another

I found a way to copy the driver settings but it did not fix the problem. I copied the driver settings using the following method;

Press the start menu button and click on run, Then type in the following (Caps Locks actually matter in these commands... surprisingly.):

RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /Ss /n "printer" /a "file.dat"

where "printer" is the name of the printer in the control panel and "file.dat" is the name of the file you want to store the settings in. for example:

RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /Ss /n "HP LaserJet 5000n" /a "C:\printer_settings\HP_LaserJet.dat"

Then copy the file from the location you stored it in (in this example it would be the HP_LaserJet.dat in the folder "C:\printer_settings\") to the other computer you want to use it on.

Place the .dat file in a folder on the C: drive of the new computer (for example "C:\printer_settings\".

You need to install the same driver for the printer that is installed on the old PC onto the new PC. Also, remember to give the printer the same name.

Then go to the start menu and then open run again. Then enter the following command:
RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUI /Sr /n "printer" /a "file.dat"

Once again "printer" is the printer name in the control panel that you want to copy the settings from and "file.dat" is the file that we are going to copy the settings from this time. So, if you copied the file "HP_LaserJet.dat" from the original computer in our example to the directory "C:\printer_settings\" on the new computer, then the command would look like this:

RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUI /Sr /n "HP LaserJet 5000n" /a "C:\printer_settings\HP_LaserJet.dat"

It should now copy the settings from the file to the printer driver.

The actual cause of the problem was the printer port. I uninstalled the driver and then removed the port that it was connecting to. Then I recreated the port and installed the printer with the previous driver that was still on the machine.
