Go to windows page on microsoft.com and download updates. You can also access updates from Internet Explorer tools. There are several optional updates as well that will give you Vista-like features. Thanks for rating FixYa!

Fazan, the replies to issues on fixya.com are normally posted only on the fixya.com web site. In this way, others can benefit from the same information, and you can also provide your feedback regarding the quality of response. It also serves to protect your privacy by not making your e-mail address public. Upon sending this to you via e-mail, I will post a copy on the site, and hope you will feel comfortable rating the response as FixYa (meaning “The solution provides great advice on how to solve the problem.”

In regard to the issue of updates, if you go tohttp://windowsupdate.microsoft.com, you will find the location for downloading updates. In case you aren’t aware, Service Pack 1 has been released for Vista, and can be obtained through the Update site as well. Service packs are major updates, as you likely know. However, the update site will scan your PC and determine what critical updates need to be applied, and what optional updates are available. Then you must choose what to download and install. (It is always wise to do a full backup before doing this, and establish a restore point, just in case.) You should be aware, however, that if you have set Automatic Updates to download and install automatically (in your Computer Properties/Windows Update), these should already be downloaded and applied. Your message does not indicate one way or the other, and if you need further help with these settings, just post back and I will guide you through that.

Now, regarding your statement that you “just want to make my pc look graphicar..... so dat it looks dffrnt from others pc”, there are innumerable ways for you to customize the appearance of your desktop and its graphics, making it unique and special for you. One of the ways to do this is by working on your desktop alone: right-click in a blank area of the display screen, and select the properties from the available choices that appeal to you most. This is the way you can change many of the various aspects of your display and its appearance, including various graphical components such as aero/3D features, window and component attributes, sidebar and gadgets, hover state, the background (which could even be a photo or other digital image of your choice), icons, and thumbnails to name a few.

Additionally, Windows for some time has used themes, which are collections of basic attributes based upon which users can further customize if desired. Themes for Vista are addressed at http://www.microsoft.com/enable/training... (just one of many sites). More detail regarding establishing themes can also be found at http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows... and associated pages.

You have raised several issues here, and I have given you references to a number of choices for improving your PC’s appearance and graphical features. Windows Vista Ultimate is the highest level of the Vista series, and accordingly, has the greatest selection of high-end features. Because of this, it also has the greatest requirements for hardware and system capacity. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you understand the impact of your choices on the performance of your system, and that the customized choices do not overwhelm your system’s resources.

Hopefully, this detailed response will provide you with sufficient information to accomplish what you want to with your PC, at least as much as possible based on your equipment. Therefore, I would hope that we have reached a FixYa level of rating for this assistance. If not, and you have further questions on this same matter, please post more details / questions, and I will attempt to help you with them. Thanks for rating this response as FixYa!

Tip

Protect yourself Online use PeerGuardian 2 and Blocklist Manager

Before you read this check out my tip on PeerBlock (PB1) that continues from where PG2 developers left off, its more stable with XP,Vista and 7.

Are you worried about who might be looking over your shoulder in a Big Brother sort of way then protect yourself from spurious PING's from Servers that you don't want to broadcast your IP address too.

PG2 rc1 PeerGuardian 2 for Vista/Windows 7
PG2 6c PeerGuardian 2 for XP/2003
PG2 6b (x64) PeerGuardian 2 for Windows XP/2003 x64 Edition
PG2 6b (NT) PeerGuardian 2 for Windows 2000/XP/2003
PG2 6b (9x) PeerGuardian 2 for Windows 98/ME

PeerGuardian 2 and BlockList Manager Pro can be used to great effect to block both TCP and UDP protocols download these three lists from my sky drive and replace the corresponding files in BLM program files folder

IMPORTS.TXT <-- use this only if you uTorrent with ipfilter.dat
EXCLUSIONS.TXT <-- use this only if you uTorrent with ipfilter.dat
EXPORTS.TXT <-- exports resulting blocklist for use with PG2

To use BLM first press CTRL + U to download and check the standard blocklist you will also need to enable them in the Options menu press CTRL + O to access this you will have to Enable ALL as shown

e9252ba.jpg

It will take about 20mins to process the blocklist for use with PG2 don't forget even though you have downloaded my three Sky drive files you will have to click the Export List menu button to convert the newly created Blocklist for use.

When you have finished creating a merged blocklist you will need to add this you you PG2 list manager as shown below the Default name for PG2 is GUARDING however you can use whatever name you like.

e31f739.jpg

Occasionally PG2 may crash if this is the case then all you have to do is Recover PeerGuardian from its Program Files Menu and restart the program this will work 99.9 % of the time if not then restart your PC

And thats it .....

Oh if you want to block HTTP then right click the blue PG icon in the taskbar this will prevent port 80 from displaying websites or in other words block all you browsers you can use this to prevent your kids from surfing the internet when you don't want them too...

Error message says: missing file, aquatica.dat

Hi,

This is a system files. These are basic file's in a window directory.Regarding aquatica.dat, it is a multimedia file component.

You can repair this by downloading .dat file from .dat database. You can easily search the file online and add it. If you purchase a software, it would cost you certain bucks. Better reinstall windows or restore.

Computer can be affected by the missing of these files. It depends on How many files are missing, configuration of the PC, Virus, Malisware, Adware etc.

The simple option - Restore or Reinstall, if not a tech.

Let me know,if need any further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
