The unit will need to go in for service there is a control bord issue there 4 in the unit these boards have to be tested by Lincoln i have the same welder and what they will do is swap out the boards till the bad one found if the unit is not under warranty they can be expensive mine coast 500.00 for the 1 control board there is not a clear way to say it is a particular one do to there all inter linked as to functions. go to the web site and search for a service center in your area hope this helps

What is the difference between TIG & MIG welding?

MIG welding is also called Metal inert gas welding, gas metal arc (GMAW) welding. MIG welding uses an arc of electricity that creates a short circuit amidst a constant anode and a cathode. The short circuit produces heat and a non-reactive gas. This melts metal, enabling it to be mixed together. After the heat is removed, the metal cools down and then solidifies, creating new fused metal. MIG wire is used in MIG welding. Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding utilizes a non-consumable tungsten electrode that produces the electric arc for the weld. Unlike MIG welding, TIG welding does not require additional metal to be added.

What settings do i use to arc weld.

Not sure what machine you have, but it should be DC straight (electrode negative or DCEN) and DC reverse (electrode positive or DCEP). The polarities have different characteristics. For example, if you're planning to TIG weld, you would either use DCEN or AC (if welding aluminum). For the general stick welding process, DCEP tends to give you a deeper weld. The welding rod you buy will have recommended machine polarity and amperage range settings, you should use the recommended polarity for whichever rod you're using because different rods are designed to weld under different circumstances. But, generally speaking, most welding rods for steel will work on DCEP without much trouble.

Instruction manual for use

If you have the user's manual there is some rudimentary information there. If you have a local welding supply company, their catalog may contain general information.

The short of it is you will need to develop a feel for your machine. When you start with scrap of the same size as what you will be welding on, select your heat setting for the matel thickness, and strike an arc- nothing fancy all you are going to do is adjust your wire feed rate until the weld sounds like fring bacon only as quiet as you can make it.

once you have that setting run a bead on a corner weld or a **** weld and look at the back side- if it the weld achieved full ***********, and looks like the top side- you have it set right. Ideally the weld pool will only be twice in width as the thickness of the metal to be welded in most situations. Neithert undercut nor excessively proud of the surface.

if you have the model number and make, find the homepage of the manufacturer (except Century) and download their user manual for that make and model of yours.

Miller welder 330a/bp it will not weld in D/C straight or reverse no ark but will work in A/C its like there is very low volts I was welding and then could not strike a ark

It's likely that your pedal is the problem. Pull the cover and check it electrically - these have been problematic in the past. You can further troubleshoot by selecting constant output and test the output.

I have a miller sycrowave 250DX i have been tig welding for about 10 years i bought this machine 2nd hand hoping it would work ok when i weld in AC and hq the arc seems like it just wants to stop it...

Did the machine ever work properly? I am assuming you are using a remote for tig welding. If you watch the points, does the HF stay on after the 5 to 10 seconds as you stated. It should stay on as long as you activate the machine. Make sure your Start Mode is in continuous. See page 42. Since there are so many options, check page 34 for help setting the options. welding aluminium requires a bigger current draw that with steel and to weld aluminium it is a dc current requirement
what you are seeing as a pulse may be the unit going into overload

How to TIG Weld

TIG stands for Tungsten Inert Gas welding. Also called GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and Heliarc® which was Linde's trade name for the TIG process when it was introduced many years ago. The arc is started with a tungsten electrode shielded by inert gas and filler rod is fed into the weld puddle separately. A slower process than MIG, it produces a more precise weld and can be used at lower amperages for thinner metal and can be used on exotic metals. TIG does require quite a bit more time than MIG to learn. It is similar in technique to gas welding.
