Rewinding internal spring on retractable projector...

posted by cko916 on Apr 17, 2008

I have a Da-lite tripod screen that was having problems retracting so I decided to pop off one of the end caps to see what was going on. BAD IDEA! When I pulled the cap off, I could hear the internal spring mechanism spin the axle as it was release and now there is no tension in the retracting mechanism at all.

Is there a good way to rewind the spring after reassembly?  There is a flat metal tab at the end of the axle that I can turn but it doesn't seem possible to do it by hand, and even if I got it tensioned, how do you get the cap (which has a slot to hold the tab in place) back on without releasing the tension?
I have the same problem.

Hi there

We've had this problem once before and at the end of the whole story the supplier had to do it for us , because they use a machine to do this.
