I can go to the task site and find that my CPU is at 100% usage when I have not been on the machine for hours and nothing is open. What could possibly be causing this to happen

The best way to find that is to go to the 'processes' tab (in task manager) and click on the top of the 'cpu' column to arrange by processor usage. Once you have found the process running at 100%, you can google it to see what the problem program is. Once you know that, you can either reinstall/uninstall it using add/remove programs (in control panels).

A bad program that is running in the background. Open Task Manager, find out what program is and uninstall it.

You need to upgrade your memory module. your CPU is eating up the remaining resources. because the memory can accommodate the process.

100% cpu usage

In Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and sort by the CPU column. See what is hogging up all your CPU. It may be a virus, if so, I recommend downloading Malware Bytes and doing a full scan. Warning, it could take several hours to scan depending on the size of your machine. Good luck!

What can I do about cpu reading 100%

Check what programs are taking up the most CPU resources, i.e. invoke the Windows Task Manager (use Ctrl + Shift + Escape or Ctrl + Alt + Delete, or simply right click on the Task Bar and select the option).

Look on the Processes page tab and click on the CPU column heading to order the usage by the maximum to minimum, then watch to see what is taking the most resources.

My Dell Latitude D620 is constantly spiking at 100% cpu, the problem arises especially when running the mouse over any program, it basically locks down my whole computer and nothing will run, it always...

It sounds like there could be a virus on your computer that is using up all of your CPU resources. Try to monitor the processes and CPU usage, buy pushing Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time. This will open up the Task Manager on XP, or show you a menu screen on Windows Vista and 7, and you can click on start task manager at the bottom. View all your processes and how much cpu usage is being taken up from those processes. Look for the process using the highest cpu usage when it spikes to 100% and please repost the process name!

In the mean time might I suggest running and anti-virus scan, scanning for malware, and spyware as well. If you do not have any of these programs, I would suggest using either AVG, or Avira Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes, and Super Anti-Spyware, all of which are free programs that can be downloaded here!

Copy and paste the links into your browsers address bar...

Avira-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

Malwarebytes-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

100% CPU usage

Hi,

Try to monitor the CPU usage before opening CROME. If it is normal before opening it then there is some process under CROME which takes you CPU usage report to GOOGLE on this. and remove it through Add/Remove programmes under control panel.

Try to use Firefox instead of CROME.

If it happens again then there is some thing wrong with OS( most probabaly Spyware or trozen).

CPU Usage jumps to 100% and down to 2% when I change websites

I'd say it has NOTHING to do with how or when you access Yahoo. In fact, anytime you see an extreme jump in CPU usage like yours....you have to consider that you may very well have a TROJAN VIRUS that's hogging up all your memory (among other things viruses do). If you don't have a good anti-virus program, then get one fast. Update all virus definitions, then.......RUN a FULL scan on your pc or laptop! Watch what you find.
