I have a 1999 pontiac sunfire 2.4L. the A.C. was blowing warm so I checked the pressure and put in some stop leak and freon with oil. the air became cold again for 3 weeks and then began blowing warm again. I repeated everything again with stop leak for rubber and metal with more freon and it stayed cool for 5 weeks but is warm again. any suggestions ?

If there is not enough freon in the system there are safety pressure switches in the system to prevent damage to the compressor from lack of oil. First have the system tested for leaks and repair them before adding freon. The system should be evacuated with a vacuum pump for a while to check for seal leaks and to remove moisture that will enter the system .
Marie, thanks for asking and I will try to explain the process. The major component of your system is the Freon. It needs to stay in the system at a precise pressure. Any leaks from a line, the compressor, the dryer, will make it stop cooling.
You must first find the cause for not cooling. It can be only 1 part, and usually not all of the parts. This means you only replace the bad section and leave the rest alone, just as the factory installed it.
You would have someone check the system pressure. In some cases a leak-stop product may be added if there is some pressure left in the system. But a completely empty system requires replacing the contaminated dryer and then purging the system with a machine called a "Vacuum" pump. There are special fittings requiring tools that may be loaned from autoparts stores with a tool loaner program.
The system, once purged, may be refilled with Freon and compressor oil in the proper amount per SPECS.
That was a description of the right way to do this.
If you are lucky, get a Freon can with sealer, oil and Freon. Some costing about $40 have a gauge built into the can. You might get lucky and by following the can instructions, recharge your unit to an operating condition. But that is $40 wasted if you have a big leak.
Usually if its "fast cycling" its low on freon which means you probably have a leak also. After adding the freon to the proper level the fast cycling should stop and you should have cold air in the low 50 degree range coming rom the vents. You can buy the cans of freon with the pressure gauges built into them so you can gauge how much to put in. It's based on outside air temperature. Follow the instructions carefully and you shouldn't have any issues.
First things first.....You must have the air conditioning system hooked up to an a/c system machine and then checked for leaks and also read low and high side pressures. If there are leaks then low Freon (R134a) content and low refrigerant oil can cause the a/c system to not engage the a/c compressor which basically means you will not have proper defrost functionality nor regular air conditioning. Most shops, when working with your air conditioning, will install air conditioning dye to assist them in locating leaks and is the first step in diagnosing all a/c systems. Post the findings after thw
Did you put some freon oil in it or a can of stop leak. A lot of times freon will leak from the o rings. If you just add freon and no oil it will slowly leak out. Add about 4 ounces of oil and then your freon. Let the car run w/ac on for about 30 minutes. This should work.
check pressure it may have leaked out already, also pressure test will tell if compressor is bad or other leaks, u can put dye in system and look for leaks yourself availible in most part stores, look at front of vehicle and look at condesor and see if any obvious damage
Check to see if your system is charged. there is a pressure plug with a green cap near the right side motor mount. If you have pressure then check fuze under hood and see if compressor is kicking in. If not charged it will not kick in.
