The touch screen is out of sync with the letters on the screen and gets worse as you move right across the screen. On the left side of the screen the letters are OK but on the right hand side a correct response is hard to estimate or is outside the edge of the screen.

from your description above i am sure you are describing a broken lcd screen,if i am right there is no repair feasible for this set..
Step 1: Plug your iPod into your computer and open up iTunes.
Step 2: After a few moments, scroll down the left side of your screen until you see your iPod. Select it.
Step 3: The right side of your screen should now show the general information about your iPod. Scroll down the right side of your screen until you see a button labeled "Restore"
Step 4: Click OK. Give it a few minutes and your iPod will be restored to factory settings WARNING: ALL THE INFORMATION THAT WAS ON YOUR IPOD WILL BE ERASED. Once the iPod is restored, it will be able to sync with whatever is in your iTunes library.
Try recalibrating your touch screen. if that does not work make sure and rule out pressure damage to specific section of screen. if it turns out to be physical damage to screen or device that recognizes touch. call Garmin for further solutions.
On your iphone touch contacts, then touch the contact you want, then touch edit at the top right of screen. Edit your info and then touch done at the top right of screen. Next open up itunes and then plug your USB cord up to the iphone and computer ports and wait for the ipod to show up under the devices on the left side of the screen. Then click on the ipod icon that shows up under devices at the left of the screen. Click on the info tab at the far right on top. Make sure the box is checked that says "Sync Address Book Contacts" Underneath that heading click on sync all contacts. Then click on Sync at the bottom right of the screen. Give the system a few minutes to do its thing and it will tell you on the computer screen when it is done syncing.
