Question about Televison & Video

Disk not recognized...loads, but doesn't succeed in playing disk, displaying "no disc" and stops disc spinning. What do I need to do to get the Mintek DVA 8700 to recognize discs. I've opened it to see if there was any loose connection, all seem fine. I do know the owner had a center speaker of a surround sound system sitting right on top of it; with two speakers (left of and right of the DVA 8700)on the same shelf as the Mintek DVA 8700. This may have caused a magnetic interference or the vibrations may have broken something on one of the circuit boards causing a lack of response to the presence of a disc. Waiting for your response

I have a mintek DVA 8700 in our camper. The flat screen television shows it attempting to load the DVD on the p[roper screen, but after about 2 to 3 minutes it reads, "No Disk" I have tried 5 different disks with all the same results. It just started doing it. We had been using it for the last couple of years.

I had this same problem with my Apex AD-500W DVD Player. I decided since everyone said the player basically needed to be replaced it wouldn't hurt to go through the buttons on the remote just to try and figure it out......I DID!!!! I turned on my DVD Player, inserted a disc, turned on my tv and then hit the SYSTEM Button right below the power button until the screen said MULTI and the machine started working perfectly. There are 3 settings in that button, PAL which made my screen go crazy, NTSC ( i have no clue) and MULTI(this one made it work)! Hope it also works for all of you!!!

Why won.t the disc go to load. it keeps opening after inserting disk .when play is pushed it shows stop then ejects disk.Whats up with www.rca.com/customersupport

check the type of discs that are recognized with your dvd player. Some machines recognize dvdr- some dvdr+ some dvdrw+/- you may be using the wrong formated type of disc.Look at disc and see what type it is in the ring surrounding the hole especially if it is a copy

My Sony DVP-cx995v stopped playing DVD's

I had the same "Cannot play" problem - happened suddenly, I don't think I was doing anything unruly at the time.

After checking repair (exchange) prices in excess of $250 from Sony, I decided to open the cover to see if I could see anything wrong - normally a futile exercise with electronics except that in the past I have cleared errant disks that have lodged themselves near the drive/player at the rear of the library.

Upon opening and watching the library try to load and play I noticed the drive itself was not spinning the disk once loaded. It would sit for awhile, thinking about it I'm sure, then would unload and load the next dvd, again failing to spin.

I thought okay, maybe try to spin the dvd while in the player to see if it's jammed or otherwise hard to turn. It was not hard to turn and spun freely. In fact, when I put my finger through the hole at the exposed side of the player at the hub to spin the dvd, clockwise, it suddenly started to spin - and play!

I put the whole thing back together to test and all seems to be working fine at this point. Not sure what would cause the motor to stop spinning and remain in that state through poweroff/on cycles etc. but I'm sure this is not the last time I will have trouble of this kind.

I would note that when replacing the library back in its home on the shelf, be careful not to tip the library, especially toward the player area because the disks will spill out of the carousel near the player and become jammed when you power it on and attempt to load. A final tip of the library away from the player area may clear this if you hear the disks rolling out of their slots and you don't want to open the top again (it's a darned heavy box when fully loaded).

Good luck!

Player won't load any discs

I don't have a solution at this time. I have the same DVD player and mine stopped working this past weekend. It is doing the same thing as yours. I opened the case and loaded a disc and watched the mechanism. The disc won't spin. if you tap the disc it will start spinning and load and start playing. I thought I had fully fixed it. It will load most times but now the video and audio stutters as if the discs is spinning at varying rates.

No disc displayed

The disc won't spin until the unit recognizes that there is actually a disc there. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. If that fails, try playing a CD. If the CD plays, the optics are starting to fail as reading a DVD requires higher laser power.

I'm afraid you are dealing with a weakened Laser on the unit. The cost vs. benefit ratio of fixing this unit is not worthwhile.

You will find that there are newer versions of this device on the market less expensive than what you paid for the unit you have now.
