Question about Kenmore 22622 Top Load Washer
We have a 5 year old Kenmore 22622 washer that has been making a loud knocking noise only at the end of the spin cycle (as it's spinning down). It is not unbalanced, and will also do this if no clothes are even in the washer. The washer works perfectly fine otherwise. It does not seem to be worsening either, as it's been doing this for at least a couple years now (always just meant to call someone to look at it, never have). Finally thought I'd just get this taken care of. Any ideas as to what this could be?
To allow for unbalanced loads and reduce vibration in the floor of the house, the outer tub is suspended by various means. Some machines use a heavy rubber ring, others use spiral springs but either of those can, after a heavily unbalanced load, unhang themselves or in the case of the rubber suspension, the rubber tires and rips.
If you remove the back panel (10-12 screws) and look inside while pushing the tub side-to-side, you should be able to find the suspension and inspect it with good light.
