Log onto the router via a wired machine, go to your wireless tab, security. Should be right there.

Whats my routers hex key

The encryption (hex) key is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Belkin to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Belkin configuration URL
http://192.168.2.1
The default PW = blank (just press enter)
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
Connect your DSL or cable modem to the D-Link router.

If the netbook is running Windows 7 and the router is encrypted with WEP, then you can try changing the encryption to WPA or converting the WEP Key to HEX and entering the key in hex to the netbook

Where do I find my WEP key

To access the web-based utility, launch the web browser on
your computer (INTERNET EXPLORER), and enter the Router’s default IP address, 192.168.1.1, in the Address field/bar. Then, press Enter. A password request screen will appear. Leave the User name field blank then default password admin. (You can set a new password from the Administration tab’s Management screen.) Click OK to continue.
The Internet Setup section configures the Router to your Internet connection. Most of this information can be obtained through your ISP/ your internet provider. Internet Connection Type Select the type of Internet connection your ISP provides from the drop-down menu. By default, the Router’s Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration - DHCP, which should be kept only if your ISP supports DHCP or you are connecting through a dynamic IP address. 68be046.jpg IMPORTANT: If you are using WEP encryption, always remember that each device in your wireless network MUST use the same WEP your wireless network will not function properly.
WEP Encryption Select a level of WEP encryption, 64 bits
10 hex digits or 128 bits 26 hex digits. The default is
64 bits 10 hex digits.
Passphrase Enter a Passphrase to automatically generate WEP keys. Then click Generate.
Key 1-4 If you did not enter a Passphrase, enter the WEP key(s) manually.
Click Save Settings to apply your change

Can not laptop to connect

Wireless Troubleshooting Checklist 1. Unplug power from Router and Modem for 3 mins. 2. Restart computer. 3. Make sure your wireless device is active: a. Verify that your wireless device is turned on. Some laptops have a physical hardware switch located on the case. Make sure this is in the ‘On’ position. Other laptops use a Function Key combination (e.g. Dell uses Fn+F2, IBM uses Fn+F5)

b. Open Network Connections (from the System Tray or from the Control Panel). Verify that your wireless Connection is Enabled. If not, right-click on your wireless connection and select ‘Enable.’
4. Renew your connection. Changes elsewhere on the network can sometimes knock out your connection. To reconnect quickly, click Start, Run in XP (or press the Windows key in Vista), type ipconfig /renew, and press Enter. 5. Check for interference. Have you installed any new wireless devices (speakers, baby monitors, ect)? If so unplug them. Make sure your wireless network has a unique name (ssid). 5. If other wireless devices can connect to your router and only your computer can't. a. Try deleting your wireless profile. If you are using the built in wireless for windows go to Control Panel> Network Connections right click on Wireless Network Connection and select View Avaliable Networks. On the left hand side under Related Tasks click on "Change the order of preferred networks" select your network name and click remove. Now try reconnecting to it. Be sure to type in the correct security key. b. Disable your software firewall. 6. If you can connect to the router but not the internet. a. Click Start > Run type CMD into the box and click OK to open a command prompt.

At the prompt type netsh winsock reset catalog
This will Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults

When the first one is done tyoe this netsh int ip reset reset.log
This will Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults

Reboot the machine. b. Change the name of your wireless network (SSID) c. Change the wireless security key and or wireless security type. Some devices are not compatible with the WPA encription. be sure to use a HEX password Hex is 0-9 and A thru F only. The Hex key
must be exactly 10 characters long for WEP64, or 26 characters long
for WEP128. If you're using 5 characters or 13 characters, it's
really ASCII, not HEX. Please don't forget to rate this solution.

jpconda - you did nothing wrong.
By changing your SSID, your connection broke, because you were still associated with your old SSID (linksys).
Right-click on your wireless network connection symbol in your taskbar and choose "View Available Wireless Networks". If you broadcast your SSID, you should see your new name in the list.
Just connect to it (and hopefully enter the security key..;-).
If you don't see it, go to 192.168.1.1 and enable the broadcast of your SSID ( on the Wireless Tab - Basic Wireless Settings). Don't forget to save your changes!
Once your are connected, you can disable the broadcast again, if you don't want someone else to "see" your network.

How do I install linksys router

Hi there, and welcome to FixYa
Connect the pc with a cable to any of the four LAN connections on the back of the router.
DO SET THE ADMIN password as the first thing you do.
goto -> administration -> management, fill out the router password and reenter it to confirm.
Give your network a name (SSID) so that you can find yours if there is more around you. Network name are called SSID, short for service set identifier
goto -> wireless -> basic wireless settingsWireless Network Mode : set to mixed,
Wireless Network Name (SSID), set a name well known to you, NOT your address :-)
now set the  Wireless Channel :  to any other than channel 6, which is the one everybody use. Too much electrical noise might interfere with your transmitting.
Now, go to Wireless -> Wireless connection, to set the Encryption security settings.
Set security mode to WEP,
Set the Transmit key to your choice, if you know that you wireless card has 4 keys as well, I would use key 4.
Set WEP encryption to: 128 bit 26 hex digits.
Go down to key 4, and find combination of numbers and the letters a, b, c, d, e or f.
(ex. 414243444546474849404a4b4c) = 26 hex digits.
Save settings.
Now, before you leave, WRITE DOWN your SSID, your password and key 4 with your settings, as you need to set your wireless card with the same settings.
Start -> settings -> network and right click your wireless connection and click properties.
At the top, choose Wireless network, find your network, (your SSID) choose properties and set these settings as you wrote down from the router.
Now, remove the cable and logon wireless.

My pc will not access my new wireless router

Hi there, and welcome to FixYa.
You have got yourself a very friendly neighbor, but give him/here coffee, not access to your network.
- what you have to do, is to find the reset button on the back of the router, press and hold for about 5 seconds with power on, and you have reset it to factory standard.
DO SET THE ADMIN password as the first thing you do, so that your neighbor can’t access your router anymore.

Give your network a network name so that you can find yours if there is more around you. Network name are called SSID, short for service set identifier
Go down to key 4, and find a combination of numbers and the letters a, b and c.
(ex. 414243444546474849404a4b4c) = 26 hex digits.
Save settings.
Now, before you leave, WRITE DOWN your SSID, your new password and key 4 with your settings, as you need to set your wireless card with the same settings.
Start -> settings -> network and right click your wireless connection and click properties.
At the top, choose Wireless network, find your network, (your SSID) choose properties and set these settings as you wrote down from the router.

Now, remove the cable and logo on wireless…..

Linksys wireless card with ASUS WL520g Router - encryption error

you have changed the network key, but why update the username and password as it should always be the same which is the one supplied to you to connect to your service providers connection, assuming you mean the security key, go to your pc and search for your network again, as it will be trying to connect to a non existant unsecured router. When it searches and finds the networks in your area, choose yours click connect and the enter password window should pop up to be entered. Go to your browser and clear old temp files and cookies in tools, internet options, restart pc and you should assuming you have put the correct settings in be online.
