Question about Whirlpool GU2400XTP Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Whirlpool GU980SCGQO not draining and I'm expecting 27 dinner guests Sunday

The dishwasher isn't draining and isn't running through cycles. Pressing drain/cancel seems to start the wash as a continuation only briefly, but no draining occurs. The filters are clean and the adjacent sinks and disposal drain well.
OK, I'm maybe expecting too much from my 10 year old dishwasher, but it hasn't caused any problems for 7 years.
HELP!!!!!!!

No. The disposal was installed a couple of years ago and works fine.

  • BABHMJ Apr 17, 2008

My husband can't check this now, he's asleep. Thanks. We'll get back with you tomorrow.

  • BABHMJ Apr 18, 2008

OK, so tonight my husband worked on the dishwasher for a couple of hours. He followed your lead, but found corrosion under the dishwasher. He thought that he got it running for a while, then decided he was right back where we started.

He felt it was worth replacing a part before we buy a new machine.

I was hoping he would stay awake long enough to explain to you what he found. Hopefully, he'll be able to write you tomorrow night.

Just for the record, our first two years with this machine were stormy and I had resigned myself to this being a "lemon". However, when I pulled out our file 3 days ago and realized that it's now 10 years old, I guess it hasn't been that bad a machine after all.

I'm having the same problem with my GU9808CGB2 dishwasher. The technician was here this morning and it's STILL not working, He thought it was a clogged drain valve under the dishwasher, he cleaned it out, didn't wait for it to run through a whole cleaning cycle, His big thing was use Dishwasher Magic--he just happens to have some on the truck for $13 (I just checked--it's $5 at a hardware store) and I have to always run the water to hot before I start the dishwasher. What part of his solution helped you?

Ok, there are a couple of things it could be. The pump motor could be stuck, which is the most likely. Remove the bottom panel and look underneath. Spin the impeller until it spins freely, then try to start the dishwasher. Make sure the door is open before you do this, so that the impeller doesn't run while your hand is in it =)

Also, check the drain hose for a check valve. Sometimes these get stuck in the wrong position and it won't drain well. If none of these work, let me know and I'll help you further.

Whirlpool dishwasher, quiet partner 1. Does not drain, does not finish wash cycle.

ensure your dishwasher pump and drain hose are unobstructed. If your machine does not drain it will not refill with fresh rinse water and since it can't do that the cycle will never finish.

Many people don't completely rinse off food stuffs from their dishware, expecting the dishwasher to take care of it. To be honest, a dishwasher is more of a fine cleaning and disinfecting device than a pot scrubber. Because of this, grease, food debris, etc can clog the pump or drain line over time. be sure to use a good de-greasing agent regularly once the flow of water has been cleared (don't wash your dishes with it however)

Does my whirlpol du1145xtpb1 dishwasherr need to be reset

SERVICE DIAGNOSTICS CYCLE
To start the Service Diagnostics Cycle, press the
following keys, in order, in less than 6 seconds, while in standby(power on but unit off):
Heated Dry, Normal, Heated Dry, Normal
To Rapid advance one interval at a time, press the Start key, noting that
unlike Standard cycles, the Diagnostics Cycle automatically resumes
after door openings and does not require pressing Start to resume.

Once the diagnostic cycle has run and shut off, run a normal wash cycle, empty and with no detergent, to reset the control to factory "normal" operation. Make sure there's plenty of hot water.

Whirlpool gu1200xtls2 wont drain just stopped

Hello

your Whirlpool dishwasher stopped draining mid-cycle, check your circuit breaker or fuses. The cycle won't complete if the power is interrupted. Reset the circuit breaker if tripped, or change out any blown fuses. Fully close the dishwasher door, and restart the cycle if you opened up the door. If you have not used the dishwasher in a while, the motor may be stuck. Open up the main housing, and rotate the motor until it turns freely. You must replace the motor if it's corroded or won't move since it's unlikely that you can fix it.

Pump

The pump is located underneath the lower rack and spray arm. This component is responsible for pumping water out of the dishwasher once the cycle is complete. If the pump isn't working, verify that it is not clogged with debris. Use a toothpick or plastic utensil to remove food particles from it. Check the pump impeller. If a section of it is broken, get a new pump since the impeller is difficult to fix.

Clogs

Clogs in the air gap or drainage hose prevent water from leaving the tub. Clean these components and the water inlet filters, if dirty. Examine the drainage hose, and straighten it if it's kinked. If the hose is badly crushed, you must replace it. Unscrew the drainage hose from the dishwasher to clean it, but reattach it before you restart the cycle. Run the food waste disposer if it's connected to your Whirlpool dishwasher. Remove the knockout plug from the disposer if you have just installed the disposer or dishwasher.

Drain Valve/High Drain Loop

Whirlpool dishwashers have drain valves with an internal solenoid. This valve opens and closes to drain water out of the tub. If the drain valve is stuck, lubricate the lever, and remove any debris clogging the valve. Remove any objects that are preventing the drain valve from freely opening and closing. If the valve is not working properly, you must replace it. Always install a high drain loop to prevent water from the sink entering your dishwasher. Create a loop of the drainage hose that is at least 18 inches high. Attach this hose beneath a section of cabinetry.

My dishwasher isn't draining after it's cycles.

Hi
Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller & clean the chopper assembly. Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

My diswasher does not drain.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain pump & filter. Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn’t overheat. If you suddenly begin to experience a large amount of water being retained in your dishwasher, you have a problem. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines. First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. If you have checked the drain hose and can’t locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Whirlpool du920 dishwasher not draining after wash cycle

Has the disposer been replaced recently? If so, chances are the knockout is still in place. Simply remove the drain hose from the disposer, and knock out the plug. If the disposer has not been replaced, try removing the drain hose from the disposer and use a wet-dry vacuum (prepared for water, of course) to **** any water (and hopefully anything else) from the drain line. Then reconnect the hose, and test the unit. If you have checked the air gap and the drain hose and can’t locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee
