You may have to get a new bios file. To do this you will need to find the newest bios version for your motherboard. Download it, copy it to a bootable floppy and "flash" your bios.

I installed a new hard drive in my dell computer and now the cd rom will not recognized any disc that is inserted into it. How can I fix this?

Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Go to Device Manager and select Show Hidden Devices under View. Delete all drives under CD/DVD's and reboot. Windows will auto load as New Hardware Found.

You could also try re-connecting it. Finally you may have hardware problems if the above fails.

File will not rewrite to cd, computer does not reconize cd installed

Can it play a music CD or retrieve data from an existing one?
You can click start, my computer and at least see if your DVD
drive (D: usually) is there. If the inserted DVD or CD is good, it
will show free and used space. Your drive may have gone bad.
Some computer centers have walk in clinics and may be able
to determine that.

My PC somehow erased the Driver. It is not recognizing that the CD/DVD-R drive even exists

Strange but... go to your hardware and delete the cd\dvd-r. restart the computer. There wil be a message that new hardware has been found. It will check for drivers or ask you to give the driver cd. Than it will work again

Brand new computer and i did not install the adobe it came with the computer Vista basic and i get the 1311 error message when i try to run adobe computer 1 day old !

no big problm if u comp is new r old...

When you try to install Adobe Acrobat 6, 7, 8, or 3D on Windows, the installer returns the error message "Error [1311, 1335 or 2350]. Source file not found: [drive name]:\ Adobe Acrobat [version]\data1.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." If you click Retry, the installer returns the error message "Cannot find the file Adobe Acrobat [version]\data1.cab."
Solution Perform one or more of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Check the Acrobat CD-ROM.

Make sure that the CD-ROM from which you are installing is free of dirt and debris. If necessary, clean the CD-ROM with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Solution 2: Temporarily disable anti-virus software, and then install Acrobat.

For instructions, see the documentation for the anti-virus software or contact the manufacturer.
Solution 3: Extract the compressed installation files, and then install Acrobat.

  1. Right-click the folder and choose Extract All.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. To install Acrobat, double-click the Setup.exe file located in the folder that contains the extracted files.
Solution 4: Uninstall the CD-ROM drive and let Windows redetect it, and then install Acrobat.

  1. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties.
  2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  3. Expand the DVD/CD-ROM drives section.
  4. Right-click each device listed under DVD/CD-ROM drives and choose Uninstall. Click OK to confirm.
  5. Close Device Manager and restart the computer.
  6. After Windows redetects the DVD/CD-ROM drive(s), insert the Acrobat CD into the CD-ROM drive and install Acrobat.
Solution 5: Install Acrobat from the desktop.

  1. Insert the Acrobat CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Copy the Acrobat folder from the Acrobat CD to the Desktop.
  3. Double-click setup.exe in the Acrobat folder on the Desktop, and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation.
Additional Information Errors 1311, 1335, and 2350 occur when the Acrobat installer is unable to access the necessary files from the CD-ROM drive. These same errors may also occur if antivirus software interferes with an installation or if the installation files are compressed.

CD does not work

The most likely cause of all is that the laser has gone in the drive its self,
you can pick up a dvd-rw on ebay for £10-£15 including postage on ebay,
try a new cd drive and it should work, the other thing could be that the motherboard cd drive connector has gone, try linking your hard drive and cd drive together on 1 cable (through the hard drive socket on motherboard)

My laptop does recozie my cd/dvd drive

It may be a case of junking it, especially if it is old.

You could, however try....

right click 'my computer' then select 'properties'

on the new box that appears choose 'hardware' from the tabs along the top then choose 'device manager'

A new box will open which lists all of your system hardware. Have a look for an entry which says DVD/CD-rom Devices

click on the + next to it and it will list the disc drive that is installed. double click on the drive and then choose 'drivers' from the tabs along the top, click uninstall and follow all the directions. Once done re-boot the laptop. Windows should find the drive and automatically install it for you.

One other thing you could try is to make sure the drive is located in the bay properly, by pushing it in. Although it is unlikely to have come out as laptop drives are held in by a screw.

If this does not work then maybe it will be time to buy a new drive!

My cd-rom drive is not working on my computer. I have gone into properties on my computer and it has a warning sign under the dvd/cd rom drive. How do I fix it?

Use control panel - add/remove program and uninstall any programs for the DVD player. Next use control panel - system - hardware - devices and uninstall the DVD player. Leave the device connected. Reboot and when system detects the player load only the driver for Ur os. See if this fixes the problem. If still not work, sounds like time to replace. DVD writers do not have but a coupla' hundred writes and the laser burns out. Designed that way.
