Acer OrbiCam is not recognized on my Acer Aspire 5610 series laptop

When I click on the Acer OrbiCam on the desktop, this message appears: A webcam was not found or is not working properly. Acer OrbiCam does not appear on the Device Manager. There is also a pop-up on a USB not functioning properly.

my webcam is no longer recognised by my pc notebook

I don't have the USB issue, but the rest of it's happening. I've tried emptying my pictures folder and I've reinstalled the driver software, and still nothing.

When I click on the Acer Orbicam logo in the toolbar I get a dialog box with 'take photo' and 'record video' greyed out and a note at the top that says "A webcam cannot be found or is not working properly. I do seem to have the driver Windows installed it for me on its own, so I assume the problem is with the application. I notice that no imaging devices are shown in Device Manager in the Control Panel. I tried repairing the application in "Add/Remove Programs" but it did not help. Before doing the repair, the camera worrked when Windows intalled the driver it told me it wanted to install. But then, after I had taken a photo, it stoped working once more.

My computer is an Acer 5610Z notebook with Windows Vista. It has a problem with its Orbicam, which worked fine until some time after I installed Norton Interned Security 2009. All I then got was the a grey camera screen but the camera light and image did not appear. I then set the compatibility mode from Vista to XP, and now cannot set it back because W. Vista is gone from the compatibility menu. Furthermore, no 'imaging devices' are shown in the Device Manager. When I click on the shortcut icon for the camera, I get a dialog box telling me "A webcam cannot be found or is not working properly". Microsoft Windows did send me, without my asking for it, and installed a camera driver which worked fine but then, after I took a a photo, the camera stopped working again. I then tried to repair the Orbicam application in Add//Remove Programs, and that seems to have made things worse. When Windows again installed the driver, I no longer got the blank image screen, let alone an image, but instead the above-mentioned dialog box with a couple of options and an Orbicam settings widget. Could it be that the Orbicam application was damaged by my attempted repair and that I have to reinstall it? I wonder where I can find it? It seems that my Orbicam is a Bison camera, but Logitech and Sin Yu are also listed in the Acer e-Recovery drivers/camera section. None of the three drivers worked, however. Only the one supplied by Windows automatically did, but no longer does as I explained. Is there any help for me short of restoring my computer to factory settings and losing all my purchased programs and Windows Vista updates?

Sounds like the original program got corrupted. When was the last time you ran disc defrag? Anyway, to fix, for some odd reason, moving all your pictures to a new file, leaving your picture file empty, may fixya.. If that doesn't work, reinstall the original Orbicam program as follows: first go to control panel, then check out device manager to see if you have any nasty big checks. If "imaging devices: has a big check, try reinstalling the driver there. If that doesn't fixya, click on Start, then Acer Empowering Technology, then Acer E-Recovery, and choose Restore Apps and Drivers at the bottom of Restore tab. It will extract; then click Install for Vista or (XP) on the left - click Drivers - Camera or CCD - on the right side of the screen for your model which you saw in device manager. Please let me know if that doesnt do the trick.

Model5742 web cam not working

The Acer OrbiCam is a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam mounted at the top of certain Acer laptops. The webcam can record video clips and integrate with instant messaging software. If you are trying to use your Acer OrbiCam but it won't connect, the driver--a small software file that tells the webcam what to do--may be outdated. Acer provides webcam driver update pages for the Aspire 9300 and Aspire 5570 versions.

1.Go to the Acer 5570 or Acer 9300 Driver Download page (see Resources).
2.Click "MS Windows XP" or "MS Windows Vista" on the drop-down menu, depending on your operating system.
3.Select "Acer OrbiCam Bison Driver" from the menu.
4.Click "Save File > OK" and wait for it to download.
5.Double-click on the downloaded setup files to install the driver.
6.Go back to the Acer Downloads page, and select "Acer OrbiCam Driver Bison Utility 1.0.0.13" from the drop-down menu.
7.Click on "Save File > OK" and wait for it to download. Double-click on the downloaded setup files to install the driver.
8.Restart the computer.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya

My orbicam

The symptoms
The symptoms arise when a user double clicks on Acer Orbicam (Desktop icon), and Vista displays the following message: “Acer Orbicam application has stopped working” and needs to be shut down.
First of all, your webcam is still working, the device does not have problems. You can check this quite easily by opening Messenger -> Tools -> Webcam Settings.
Another way is to check the folder:
C:\windows\BisonCam\
There you will find the application “LiveCam.exe”. Run this to check that the webcam device is working fine.
If you don’t have the “BisonCam” folder, this means that your webcam is a different model; I don’t yet have a complete list of all the devices and their relative folders but all notebooks and webcams have some folder so if you look hard enough you’ll find yours.
The problem
There appear to be two factors that can create this problem:
1] The Orbicam application needs the correct orbicam driver to work correctly;
Windows Vista has its own internal driver to install the device, naming it “Acer Orbicam” (great Windows!!) but in this way the application cannot find the correct driver, so Vista returns the error message.
2] If some pictures are present inside “My Pictures” folders, the Orbicam application will fail to start. It seems to be a Vista issue and still needs to be fully clarified.
The problem seems to have been caused by the Vista Upgrade software, which causes the OrbiCam application on certain models to malfunction. However, as explained above, the OrbiCam camera works fine, the software just can’t control it correctly after the upgrade.
Another issue that has added to the confusion here is that there are “more than ten” different types of OrbiCams installed on Acer notebooks. Again as mentioned above Windows Vista has its own internal driver to install the device, and simply calls it “Acer Orbicam” which makes distinguishing the correct driver from wrong one an almost impossible task. If you replace your driver with the wrong one, the application cannot find the correct driver and you get the now famous error message.
Lastly, the problem is restricted to Vista-ready notebooks and NOT native Vista notebooks. By that I mean the problem does not exist with the new Gemstone and TravelMate ProFile models as these were designed specifically to run under Vista.
I know this is no consolation to users with this problem but I just wanted to reassure readers that this issue is not endemic to all Acer notebooks.
Solutions
Currently only 2 notebooks have complete solutions available online. This is because - so far - they are the only “problems” Acer support technicians in Taiwan have been able to fully replicate, analyse and repair.
These “fixes” are not general solutions and ARE NOT OK FOR ALL NOTEBOOKS. This explains why some readers have been getting error messages with the new drivers/applications. The new drivers and applications can be found at the following addresses:
Aspire 9300 at the following link:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_9300.html
Aspire 5570 at the following link:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5570.html
If your notebook is not one of the two above, read on:
For all notebooks with Acer Orbicam the repair procedure is the same:
1] identify the specific webcam device you have inside your notebook
2] get the hardware description (hardware id) of your notebook’s webcam
3] get the full serial number of your notebook (long alphanumeric code in the bottom side)
4] send this information to your local support centre who can then walk you through the procedure for your specific notebook.
All steps are important because only with the above information can Acer correctly identify the right driver and application for your notebook. Simply sending “Acer Orbicam” as the description, does not help because all the different webcams Acer installed are called “Acer Orbicam” (again, thanks Windows)…
So how do you identify the right one ?
How to get the webcam device information:
Go to “Control Panel”, switch to “Classic View” (the support team still find this way easier and better to work with than the default one) and double click on the “System” icon; to the right you will find Tasks list and below “Device Manager”, click on this.
Now you have the full list of devices of your notebook, look for “Imaging Devices” and double click on this. Here you will find the Acer Orbicam.
542506847_38185ec1b4_o.jpg Double click on “Acer Orbicam” and the Acer Orbicam Properties window appears. There are three tabs : General, Driver, Details
542397216_657b57f5d0_o.jpg Click on “Driver” tab, the important information listed here is:
“Driver Provider” and “Driver Version”
542506947_d280ed5924_o.jpg Copy this info onto a word / txt file or take a screenshot of this window. Just make sure you write down this information. Then click on “Details” tab
542506971_0b3e8f0f00_o.jpg Under “Property” you have a scrolling list, click on it and open the drop down menu.
542507017_6f244cf125_o.jpg On the drop down menu look for “Hardware Ids”. Click on this.
In the Value box, you should find something similar to:
USB\VID_5986&PID_0102&REV_0100&MI_00
USB\VID_5986&PID_0102&MI_00
542397338_1d8c1d1f3a_o.jpg As before, copy these two lines or make a “screenshot” of the window
At the end of all this you will have:
Your Notebook’s Serial Number
The OrbiCam Driver Provider
The OrbiCam Driver Version
The OrbiCam Hardware IDs

Send all of this information to Acer with your support request/telephone call. This should cut down the time it takes them to get you back up and running.

Good Luck, should get your cam going again/Please dont for get to Vote, Thank You.
