My Toshiba rear projection TV TN50X81, chassis TAC9960, manufactured July 2000 has sound and functions, but no picture. It started with the picture sometimes collapsing, turning it off and on would get the picture back. With time the problem occurred more frequently and now the picture stays off. Any ideas?

Your TV is going into shutdown mode. The most common cause is a problem in the convergence IC's. Both chips will have to be replaced and at a cost of around $350 for most shops. Thx
If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem. If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured. You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com
the bulbs go out it is normal on projection tv's, you can order the new one online, just out in the model number of your tv and you will find it, be very carful not to touch the bulbs when they come or when you are putting them in the tv
I had dish satelight install on my TV. It worked well for two days, then the picture started showing in a square box. I ffixed the convergence and it seemed okay. The next day I turned on the tv and it had sound, but no picture. When I press the status button, the picture would come on then go right back out. Now I don't have any sound or picture. What was the STKs that was in set ? If 110s always upgrade to STK392-180s. If they were 392-560s go back with the same. they worked differently then the 110s 150s 180s
