Where can I find the WEP key on my router? Router security key, router password

Where can I find the WEP key on my router?

If you have a wireless router at home you will need to have a WEP key setup on your router. WEP stands for "Wired Equivalent Privacy" and WEP is a security protocol used to secure wireless networks. When you setup a router for wireless, you normally specify a key(password) so anyone that wishes to join your network has to enter the key. You normally set the WEP key during the router setup phase. You may have set it up and forgot it, or want to reset it. In this article I will go over the steps to find out the WEP key or change it. Your router may use a different security protocol than WEP so don't worry, you still need a KEY in order to access the network.

-On most routers(reference your user manual) you can access the router configuration page by going to the gateway address. The gateway address is the IP address assigned to your router. In a lot of the cases, this address is 192.168.1.1 but depends on your router.
There are a couple of ways to find out this IP address.
-Reference your router manual
-In Microsoft Windows, go to Start > Run and in the run box type "cmd" or "command". A black DOS windows should open. In this window, type "ipconfig /all". Look near the top and you should see a "gateway address" item. This number is the ip address of your router.

Once you know your gateway address, open up your internet browser as if you were going to go to a website. In the URL(address) bar, type the gateway address and hit enter(see image below). A log in box should now show. Again, reference your router manual if you do not know the administrative password. Enter in your password and username.

g33k4u_7.png

Once you log in you now have access to the router settings and you can configure what you please. What we are looking for in this article is the wireless security settings. In the wireless security settings page you should be able to see the password for your wireless network and change it. If you see no password go ahead and set one up.
**You can also look around and modify other settings. You can change the wireless security, give your wireless network a name(SSID field) and even with some routers have built in testing features to test the connection at home.
I would recommend that if your router has a default password for admin/configuration access, that you go ahead and create a new one. The default router passwords are usually very simple and this information can be easily found on the internet by anyone. People who set up home networks tend to leave this as is and it is a security risk.

TIPS
-If you can't connect to the router and you know the gateway address, try plugging the computer into the router directly using a Ethernet cable(LAN/patch cable). If you are still having trouble, you can perform a power cycle. Turn off your modem, router and computer. After 10 seconds turn on your modem, after 30 seconds turn on your router and after another 30 seconds turn on your computer. Try to access the router now. This also helps resolve other quirky router issues.
-Make sure all the network cables, phone lines(if using DSL) and coaxial cables(cable/Broadband) are plugged in and secured firmly.

-If you set up a password and username for your routers administrative access and can't remember it, you can reset the username and password back to factory default by performing a factory reset. On most routers this can be achieved by pressing and holding the small reset button on the back of the router for 15 seconds. Please reference router user manual for more information.

I hope this article was informative. Thanks for reading.

Regards,
G33k

I still cant find my wep address!

If its your wireless router, take 1 of 3 approaches:

1) forego the wireless connection and wie your PC to the router, ten log into the
router's system mgmt web page and view your WEP setting.
Use this WEP in your wireless link software.

HOW to reset a wireless router: press in the tiny "button" on the bottom.
This resets your router mgmt password to the default in the manual
and resets WEP security to OFF (the default).

Approach #2) reset your router, returning it to the default state, which
is no WEP protection. then, wirelessly login to your routers network
security web page, and set a WEP. Then use this WEP

Approach #3: reset your router, and leave WEP security disabled.
login wirelessly. WEP denies access to those without your
WEP password, it does not allow others to "see" what you're
doing on the internet (as many believe).

Don't know my WEP key

Often times the WEP key is the serial number printed on your router. If that doesn't work, log into your router through your web browser (just type the router's IP address into the browser's address bar and then enter your username and password) and under Wireless Settings or Security Settings or something similar, you should be able to find the WEP key.

How to enter WEP passkey for router when there are 4. using HP210

On your router set up interface you will find the wireless network key.
If it is WEP then it will show you WEP Passphrase and WEP Key.
You need to type in WEP key and not the passphrase. WEP key is 10 or 26 digit Hexadecimal number. You need to enter this 10 or 26 digit number.
open the set up page of the router and check the wireless settings of the router.

Error code 51330 on the wii.it will not except my

Error Code: 51330 This error code usually indicates a problem relating to wireless security. Please try the following troubleshooting:
  1. Are you using WEP or WPA security on your router?
    1. Log into the router using the default IP (consult your router's manual for assistance)
    2. Locate the "wireless security" section of your router settings and find the WEP or WPA key.
    3. If you are using 64-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 10-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F.
    4. If you are using 128-bit encryption, the WEP Key must be a 26-character key consisting of numbers or letters A through F.
    5. The WEP Key must be a Hexadecimal (0-9, A-F, no other special characters or letters).
    6. If your router has multiple slots for a WEP Key, make sure the active key is the one in the #1 slot.
    7. If you are using WPA, the Wii console is compatible with the following types:
      • WPA - PSK (TKIP)
      • WPA - PSK (AES)
      • WPA2 - PSK (AES)

  2. If your WEP or WPA key is correct, then the problem might be related to MAC address filtering:
    1. From the router settings, locate the "MAC address filter" settings (also known as "access control", "access list", or "network filter" depending on your router model).
    2. If the Mac address filter is set to "enabled", then you must add the Wii's MAC address to the "allowed" list. You can locate the Wii's MAC address from the "console information" page (located under "Internet" in the Wii Settings).
    3. If the Mac address filter was disabled, then continue troubleshooting.

Wep address

WEP address is your security key to get on the wireless network. New access point usually do not have one assigned. You need to get into the router and enter it in, like a password. If you haven't setup the network, then someone else did and you need to get the WEP key from that person. If you can get it, then you could reset the router to factory defaults by pressing and holding the button in the back of the router for 30 seconds. Let the router reboot and look for a wireless network called "LINKSYS" or "DLINK" or something like that. You should be able to connect without entering a WEP key. If your computer asks you for one then leave it blank or look in the manual for the default WEP key.

How do I get a wep key and what is it?

A wep key is a type of internet security (mostly used on routers) to prevent any unauthorized access to their internet connection. And to get a key, go to the router you wanted to connect to and ask for the wep key and to add you to their mac address book, or if you own one, go to the txt. document that was downloaded on your desktop and look at where it says network security key, and if your router has a mac address filter, add your ds's mac address to the mack address book on your router. then connect and type the key.
