Question about JVC Everio 25x/20GB Hard Disk Drive Camcorder
I need to copy my video files onto a hard drive. When the video is not connected to my computer, I can see the files, and the menu lets me manage them. As soon as I connect the camera to my Mac, it says USB MASS STORAGE, and I have to manage the files on my desktop, via icon. So I copy the files to the hard drive through my computer, and eject the video hard drive icon at the end of file transfer.
At that point, it looks like the files are erased from the video HD, but they are not. I have to reformat the memory to delete them for real. This is a problem, because it's hard to tell whether I really have memory on the camera HD or not.
What am I doing wrong, or is this just the way it's supposed to be? I don't see any instructions on file transfer of this kind in the manual...
You can find the user manuals available for this camcorder HERE.
HERE in particular is the instruction manual for your camcorder.
Below are some sections in the manual you may find helpful in answering your questions. I didn't find anything in the manual that was specific to the operating system. However, it does appear that you can clearly identify and safely remove videos and still image from your Camcorder at the device's controls.
"Video Playback" p. 26-29
--> Various Operations during Playback
--> File Search Function
--> To Play Back Files in the [EXTMOV] Folder
--> Deleting a Video File p. 29
"Managing Files" p. 36-37
--> "Deleting Files"
--> "Viewing File Information"
"Managing Files" (Continued) p. 38-39
--> "Protecting Files from Accidental Erasure"
--> "Formatting a Recording Medium"
"Managing Files" (Continued) p. 40-41
--> "Cleaning Up a Recording Medium"
--> "Resetting the File Number"
--> "Changing the Event Registration of Video Files"
--> "Copying/Moving Still Image Files" p. 48
Please, let us know if you have any more questions, etc. We're here to help.

You are not supposed to delete files into your camera HDD using computer, You should use the camera menu, as reccomended by manual
