Re: very poor printing
If the prints are light or have white lines it will be related to the laser unit. There is a strip of glass that sits above the drum inside the machine. Clean it. If there is toner on it will cause this problem. Otherwise the laser unit has failed.
If you have dark marks, blotches or reprinting (part of the image repeating lighter down the page). It will be build up on the fuser rollers. Remove the drum/toner and look at the rollers behind, they will look dirty. The only way to resolve this is to replace the fuser unit as it is worn out.
The only other possibility is that the drum contact on the sides of the machine are deformed or out of position. Its hard to tell and fairly unlikely in this model.

There are three main reasons why you get defective printouts - toner cartridge, drum unit or the fuser assembly. Clean them with non corrosive solution or replace when necessary. That should set the printing back to normal.
sounds like you are using generic drum and toner. try OEM (brother brand). you say copies are coming out completely gray. try printing an internal report from the control panel. if that is gray or received faxes are gray, then the problem is not in your scanner area, and i would wager you are using "generic" supplies.
If you have replaced your toner and your print quality is still light, your next step is to replace your drum unit, if it has not been replaced lately. This particular drum unit has a life of roughly 12,000 pages.
what do you mean printing stage?for the blank pages,it may only require cleaning.check the toner save setting, make sure it is off.clean the scanner glass of the machine,or you may just need to replace the drum
There could be a couple reasons. One, it may be the person sending you the fax that has a problem with their machine. The easiest way to find out is, put a clean document in the feeder and make a copy. If the copy is clean then you know it is not a problem with your machine. The other possibility is that when Brother sells these new machines they only provide you with a starter drum and toner. Many times the drum may have defects and the machine does not detect these so you will not get a message telling you to replace it. If you do determine its your machine I would start by replaceing the drum unit first, then the toner. Good luck John
Unfortunately your drum unit is shot. The mechanism that cleans excess toner from the drum surface is worn out or has developed a problem. The materials needed to repair are generally not available. If this is happening then the surface of the drum is probably near the end of its usable life anyway. Save yourself a lot of grief and aggravation. Bite the bullet and buy a new drum unit. Office Depot, Staples, etc. usually offer them at about $105.
