My computer won't turn on. It was erratic for a few days; at one point told me to recharge the battery; then said it was going to hibernate. Now it won't turn on at all and we've had it plugged in for over 24 hours. Is it a battery problem?

Hi,

Yes it is a possibity that the battery has something to do with this.

Take the battery out and try boot the computer on AC power only. If it boots up let it get to windows and then shut the system down, reinsert the battery and see if it will boot up with the battery in.

If it boot up problem solved, if it doesn't then the battery maybe defective.

Regards.

Pentax Optio P80 battery won't charge all the way

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

My laptop keeps saying hibernating and i cannot get to menu screen.

Definition: Hibernate is another option for powering down your laptop. When you use Hibernate all data will be saved to the hard drive in a compressed form. Once you start up from Hibernate mode you will be able to work with the applications and documents you left open before putting the laptop into Hibernate.
Hibernate is best used to conserve laptop battery power when you will be away from the laptop for more than a few minutes. You can put your laptop into Hibernate overnight or when you will be away from it for a few hours. Examples: Rather than shutting down my laptop each night, I use Hibernate to help conserve battery power and enable me to access my open files quicker in the morning.

If you are not going to use your computer for a few hours, it is a good idea to put it to sleep (also known as mode) to save power. If you are not going to use the computer for more than a day, it is usually best to turn it off.

Dell 1737 laptop won't turn on (A/C or battery powered). Last night I tried for 15-20 minutes then it worked. This morning it didn't work again (from stand by mode). I held the power button to shut down...

you have a BIOS bug when hibernation , leave without battery for few days try to turn on with the charger, and if turns on go to the battery settings and disable the hibernation option, later go to dell website and update your system BIOS.

As soon as you turn on laptop it says hibernating and it never does anything else. how do i get this to stop. cant do anything.

If the charge in the battery is "low", and the computer is *NOT* running on AC power, then the computer _will_ hibernate, until you recharge the battery, or connect the AC adapter.

My acer computer will turn on but wont come out of hibination mode

Some laptops have issues with Windows XPs hibernation mode. To get the computer back up again you should just hold the power button down until it shuts off completely. Some laptops won’t shut off even if you do this. When this happens you have to take the battery out to get it to turn off. Make sure it is not plugged into the wall when you do this otherwise it wont work.

Once you get the computer back running again you may want to disable hibernation if it seems like its going to keep happening. Go to Start, Settings Control Panel or Start, Control Panel and go to the Power Options icon. Change the hibernation section to never. You may want to try standby as an alternative. Standby saves all your running applications and documents into RAM while hibernate saves them to the hard drive. Hibernate uses less power from your battery, but it will take you considerably longer to get the computer back up. If you always plug the computer in then you may want to disable standby and hibernate since you really dint need them while plugged in.

Let me know if this works.
