Probably out of balance, if in the spin cycle. If not, a "bang" corresponding with agitator reverse, you may have a transmission problem. Override open lid off switch with a pencil or used toothbrush in the small hole upper left location just under lid when closed so you can see the agitator action. If so run it till it breaks. Then replace. Otherwise, call your friendly appliance repairman and ask for a repair estimate first. If it is an ageing machine consider repair cost versis a lightly used one or new.
Hi Charlie...the first thing I go to if a washer does not spin is the
belt...but since you would get it to work by banging on it suggests
a faulty lid switch which may be beyond banging. I am not familiar
with your machine but most switches are under a cover just under
the top of washer....fastened by a couple of screws...unplug the
washer and examine the switch for unsecured wires...you may
have to replace the switch. There are about a dozen other possible
causes but you would need a manual to explore them all.
start filling the washer on the warm cycle, turn washer off,if the water keeps filling then you have a bad water inlet valve,if it turns off then you have a loose water level hose or the water level switch is bad-mike
this washer has a problem with the lid hinge screws coming loose. check the left hand hinge and you will find the screws loose. this cause the lid switch to not engage and then nothing will happen until it thinks the lid is closed. try to tighten the screws and listen to see if the switch "clicks" when you open and close the lid. that should fix it until the screws come loose again.
First just to let you know, the oasis is very sensitive to the load level and water ratio if its too heavy the load has to be perfectly balanced inside the tub. Next check to see if any of the straps are broke. The next thing is that the newtator has tighted up all on its own so when it spins the newtator grabs the tub while it spins at high speed. I have never had to fix this but i know it is a common problem. I hope i helped a little. Good luck!
