Warranty Our new refridgerator is having a problem with the compressor. It turns on and becomes extremely loud; like there is something wrong with it, maybe getting ready to quit. How do I have it replaced under warranty. Who do I call.

Ah this is an indication that your condenser has become dirty, or blocked, or the fan motor is not working or the air flow is restricted.
The noise is generated when the compressor cycles off and sudders to a stop

If the noise is loud enough that it sounds like somone knocking at your door then it is probably going to be the compressor. There are internal springs and is possible one broke. The only solution is to replace the compressor. It is also possible that the condencer fan motor is hitting something as well when it shuts off. You would have to look at it from the back as it shuts off after running.

Loud rattle noise when compressor cycles on

if this noise is coming from the compressor, it will eventually fail. If you just purchased it, i would ask for a replacement fridg and let the manufacturer deal with the repairs that it needs

There is a loud noise coming from the back of the refridgerator

There is a fan at the back which could be hitting something. You would hear the noise nearly continuously. There is a compressor motor at the back. If you hear the noise just when the compressor starts and stops That's usually mounts inside the compressor. It could still last awhile so if you can put up with the noise just wait for it to quit before replacing the compressor or getting a new fridge.
You may have a motherboard on the back which can make noise. You'll need to roll the unit out from the wall to see where the noise is coming from and remove part of the cardboard backing to get access to the compressor and fan.

Refridgerator

One of the springs that retains the piston in the compressor is broken. Refrigerator may operate for years like this, but check your warranty many refrigerators have 5 year coverage on the sealed system.

Ge side by side fridge makes loud thud sound...starting/stoping?

I am not sure when yours is making the noise, but I have a GE side by side and mine would make a similar noise when the compressor shut off. Check your warranty paperwork, I think GE has a warranty on the compressor for 5 years. It sounds like your compressor is going bad. If its in warranty, remember " the squeaky wheel gets the oil" complain until they fix it.
Sometimes when the repairman is there, it takes a little pushing to get them going in the right direction and to acknowledge compressor problems. Mine has a new compressor and runs like a champ.

NOt keeping food cold

Good posibility that some thing is wrong with the defrost system. This is not as expensive to repair as a compressor. Is it worth it? The compressor and having it replaced and recharged will run much more than 250 a lot of the time or very close to it. Unplug it for a few hours with the freezer door open. Then plug it back in and see if it starts freezing again. This would tell you if it is something with the defrost cycle. The low motor noise may be the fan in the bottom of the unit. It would be good to know if the compressor is running or not.
