Question about Mitsubishi WS-55805 55" Rear Projection Television

Screen goes black

I've got a Mitsubishi WS-55805. This week the picture started going black as if the TV was off. If I turn off the TV and wait a minute, then turn the TV back on, the picture will return. So far this only happens once, maybe twice a day. Any thoughts?

My problem was sudden, without warning. No picture problems, then one day no picture at all. The kids were playing Wii and the screen went black. I haven't been able to get the picture back. Tried suggestion and I do not see any sign of coolant spill. Any other suggestions?

I removed the speaker grill and board behind it to look for coolant drops. The television was working when I looked and I didn't see any coolant drops.

You say this could cause intermittent problems. I had a different problem occur on this tv a couple of months ago that seemed to clear up. The top 6 inches of the picture would distort and almost look like a curved bent picture. It would flicker like this for a while and then the picture would return to normal. That has not happened for quite a while. I am now dealing with this black screen issue.

My screen on the WS-55805 goes black as well after usage for some time - but the sound remains. When the TV is turned off usually for a 5-10 minutes, the screen will come back on. For a while it would run for days before the problem would occur again, Now it is happening more frequently. Has anyone determined the reasin for this problem, and what is required to fix it?

my problem is similar, but is preceeded by a single vertical line down the center. then several lines and static that gradually gets worse. occasionally the picture will just cut out. It comes back after being turned off 5-6 minutes, but after maybe 10 minutes of play, it starts again.
I've heard about coolant drips, didn't see any. Also the hard restart, taking power off for couple hours and trying it again. That seemed to  work for a while, but problem is not solved. ANY IDEAS would help. I'm not planning to fix myself, but would at least try to narrow down problem for tech that will have to come out.

WOW - anyone figure this out yet? My problem was sudden also, no problems from this TV for almost 9 years, then last night without warning the picture completely disappears but there is still sound. I tried changing inputs, turning it off/on, unplugging, nothing helped. Like the previous guy said, I had no picture problems leading up to this, screen just went black while watching.

I have a Mitsubishi WS 55805 which also has the problem with the screen going black, for a few months the picture started changing colors, then the scree would go black but the picture was on, I could turn the tv off and after a couple of minutes turn it back on and the picture would be back. Now the picture goes black after an hour or two of viewing and I have to leave it off 30 mins or so before I turn it back on and the picture will be back.

I have removed the grill and rectangluar board.

What does the coolant look like and what do I do to keep the coolant off of the pcb?

If you are willing, remove the speaker grill and the rectangular board behind that and look very, very carefully underneath each of the three picture tubes for evidence of coolant drops on the printed circuit boards. These sets have been known to spill a few drops of coolant onto the boards and this causes intermittent problems such as yours. This is my first direction in your case. Let me know.

Mitsubishi WS 55805 nothing but blue screen and black square in middle

A full service manual is available online---I will presume you tried to unplug it for a while and then power back to see if will reset itself.

This set has three hidden menus---one is the OPTION menu--in that menu with the Mitsubishi remote you can do a hard reset of the entire set= sets all back to factory except convergence adjustments which are stored in another area--cures all kinds of oddball issues.

I can give you a link to the manual and the page numbers for the OPTION menu.

Note: the other two hidden menus are Convergence and adjustment--do not go into adjustment menu as one wrong move and poof!
