Question about Dell 942 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Dell AIO 942 Wont' Scan

I am using Vista and have a Dell 942 AIO printer that will not scan. It will print and copy but when I try to scan a document, it does nothing. Any ideas???

    Yes, same thing....Dell 942 AIO will print but says "The All IN One driver did not respond" when I try to scan. It has worked just fine for 2 years....one day it just doesn't. Have already uninstalled and reinstalled printer.

    this is very frustrating.
    i've tried downloading several scanning programs to try to make it work, but no luck.

Try uninstalling & reinstalling the drivers....tht wld fix the issue...

How do i scan a document?


the 942 printer can scan in 2 ways ,

  • a : from the computer using all in one centre , find it @startàallprogms àdellprinters àand click on aioc (suites xp and vista )

ø U may not see it (aioc ), if the printer driversare not properly installed .
ø when it open , click in scan or preview buttons..as it is self explanatory .
ø if u can open the application but still cannotscan ., then u may have the firewall blocking its communication and may anothersettings in the pc doing it ..please let me know ..
ø replay to me and I will help further .

  • b.: if u want to scan from the printer :

> use the arrowkeys on the printer to change it to scan mode and then press the scan button
> u may prompted to select the comp name …u want to scanto .. and then select the application to be used ..still cannot scan ., then umay have the firewall blocking its communication and may another settings in thepc doing it ..please let me know ..

I would recommend cleaning off the contacts where the cartridge is loaded as well as the any other spots to see if maybe there is just something on the contacts.

I think scanning softwaere was not installed in your computer. so install scanning software. then the scanning will work properly. Pl give feedback

You print more documents then anything else, therefore you use more black ink, no color at all, assumption with information provided

Dell 946 printer wont scan on windows vista


This is your driver causing the problem. If the download was for several printers you can try to reinstall the driver manually for your specific printer. If the driver was supposed to be for your specific printer then dell has put out a bad driver which they do sometimes. You can try alerting them through their forums,their customer support, or call them and once they know they have a problem, they're usually pretty quick to fix it.I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver first though sometimes they don't install right if the computer is under a heavy load.

In this case you may try to change the print format of ur printer in order to do that please contact Dell at 1-800-WWW-DELL......

All you need to do is go to above link & download & run the upgrade/patch first. It will uninstall the drivers for the printer & thn download & install the drivers.....once the drivers are installd, you will get the aio center.....do let me knw if ny further help is required...

Updated to Windows Vista and now the Dell 922 AIO scanner won't work


For windows Vista; it is imperative to run the Vista patch which can be found on the Dell website (Downloads and drivers).
Make sure that you run the patch, after removing the printer USB cable from the computer. Restart the computer as the patch suggests and then install the Vista specific drivers, which also need to be downloaded from Dell Website.
Again, do not connect the printer unless the installation software asks you to.
For scanner issues, those who are unable to get anything scanned to their computer, and are able to print, it is essentialy a Firewall/Anti-virus issue. You can check that out by trying to scan using an application such as MSPaint (Start> type 'mspaint' > hit enter).
