you could use a hbcd boot disk or a live boot disk and install the ziip drive temp. this way you could recover data. Their is always a workaround. Good Luck.

The Drive no longer works when plugged into a laptop. Placed a DVD in the slot (non-tray) and now it will not come out. The release button does not work and there is no pinhole to poke with a paperc

Don't know this drive in particular, but here are some ideas.

Try holding down the release button for a reeeeally long time (120 seconds, maybe?)

See if you can get the pre-boot diagnostics to eject it:
1) Boot up the machine
2) At the Dell Logo, Press the 'P' key and 'F12' at the same time. This will give you power-up options.
3) Arrow down to Diagnostics and Press Enter.
4) Wait for about a 10 minute test to finish. You will be prompted to interact with the video color test, just Press 'Y' to confirm you are looking at colors.
5) When prompted with 'No problems have been found...' Press 'N' to not continue with the memory test. 'Booting Diagnostic Utility Partition' will appear.
6) Press any key on the keyboard to continue.
7) When prompted to choose an option, arrow to 'Test System' and Press the Spacebar. The 'Main Menu - Service Tag ' will appear.
8) Arrow to 'Custom Test' and Press Spacebar to select the option. The 'Customize' interface will appear.

At this point you have two options which may work for you:

9a) Double-Click on the 'Keyboard' test.
10a) when prompted with 'This test checks the keyboard...' Press OK to continue.
11a) Using the keys on the keyboard, starting with 'Esc', Press on the keyboard each highlighted key, until you finally get to the Finesse Eject button. Your disk will automatically eject!
12a) Press ESC twice to exit the test, and then Click on the 'X' to close the testing interfaces that appear. Ultimately, your system will reboot.
or
9b) Select CD/DVD test
10b) After getting to the part of the test that tells you to eject the CD, click "OK" to continue, just click "OK", it will do it 3 times.
11b) Then it will say "IT'S GOING TO TEST THE EJECT FEATURE OF THE DRIVE" that's when it will eject out.
12a) Press ESC twice to exit the test, and then Click on the 'X' to close the testing interfaces that appear. Ultimately, your system will reboot.

If none of that works, it's time to get physical.
1) Peek in the slot and see if you can see a release button inside. Here's a video that shows what to do if you can find a release button: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvBBSbeVsnQ
(the video says the button will be 12 mm from the left side of the opening, but that is model-specific, I think).
2) Peek in the slot and see if you can see a metal tab holding the disk in.
a) If so, see if you can move it.
b) If not, try sticking a piece of cardboard with double-side tape to see if you can stick it to the disk and pull it out.

I was trying to boot my pc from usb but it was noot bootable how to make usb drive bootable

Have had loads of usb media, as far as I know some USB sticks are bootable others are not, usually it will say either on the manual or on the box of the product whether its bootable. If it is bootable format the usb drive fully then copy the BOOT.INI, NTLDR, and NTDETECT from the root directory of your PC's boot drive to the flash drive. These files are hidden by default, so you will either have to configure Windows Explorer to show hidden files (including protected operating system files) or you will have to open a Command Prompt window and use the COPY command to copy the files. If you choose to use the Windows Explorer method, then open Internet Explorer and enter C: into the address bar so that you are looking at your local hard drive. Next, select the Folder Options command from the Tools menu. When the Folder Options properties sheet opens, select the View tab. Now, just select the Show Hidden Files and Folders and deselect the Hide Extensions for Known File Types and the Hide Protected Operating System Files check boxes. Click OK to continue.

Now that you have formatted your USB flash drive and installed the boot files onto it, the next thing that you must do is to configure your PC to allow you to boot from the flash drive. This is all done through the computer's BIOS Setup. I can't give you specific instructions for this part, because every computer is different. I can give you a few pointers though.
You can access your computer's BIOS by pressing a specific key immediately after you turn the PC on. The key varies, but it is usually either [F1], [F2], or [Delete]. Once you are in the BIOS Setup, you should verify that all of your computer's USB options are enabled. This might include things like support for legacy USB devices or support for USB 2.0. If there is a time out setting for USB devices, you should set it to the max to insure that the system doesn't time out while waiting on the USB device to boot.
Next, find the section on boot device priority. Normally, a USB flash drive (which is usually listed as USB-HDD, but may be listed as a removable device) will have a very low boot priority. If the USB flash drive's boot priority is lower than the hard disk (listed as HDD) then the only time the computer would ever boot off of the USB flash drive is if the system were to fail to boot from the hard disk. You must therefore rearrange the boot device priority so that the flash drive has a higher priority than the hard drive.

I need to know how can I boot from my usb flash thanks

You need to know if your motherboard can do this option.
Enter setup otion generaly when you turn your computer on press the DEL key and you are in the BIOS SETUP configuration. Go to the BOOT SEQUENCE and if it is possible choose USB option.Place this option on the first place with the UP or DOWN keys. For exemple fist boot drive : USB second boot drive HDD ,...
You must format your USB device as SYSTEM ! and have the system installed on it. You can find on the Web a light version of WINDOWS XP called LIGHT to put it on your USB device I think it is an USB flash drive, Is it?
If it is an external HDD you can install the entire system of Windows and boot by it bur select the right boot sequence in the BIOS setup.
