Unit overheats and cuts off

I read about a similar problem and the solution was to clean the filter. My question is how do I clean the filter and where is it located. My unit seems to throw off a lot of heat...is that a problem?

All the lights on my projector are blinking except for the power and lamp.

I would try cleaning the filter(s). It may be overheating. I used my air compressor to clean them out. The filters can get very dirty and the unit overheats.

Good luck,

Paul

My Epson TW 700 suddenly went black, and the fan startet to go very fast.I could also see the red light ( temp. Indicator? ) coming on.Tried to cut the power, cleaned the filter and start it again, but...

Don't cut power to a projector when you power down. The fan has to run after the projector is powered down so that the lamp can cool evenly. If you unplug or if there is a power failure the lamp will develop cracks around the edges of the reflector and will fail quickly. If the fan is not moving air through the projector, it will overheat and shut down.

My TDP-P75 toshiba projector keeps cutting out for no reason - any advice anyone?

Hi, Cutting out after 5 minutes sounds like an overheat fault. On every projector will be a filter that is user serviceable - it will most likely be blocked up with lint. To Clean - locate the filter & remove carefully. gently brush the lint & dust off the surface of itusing a soft brush or vacuum cleaner on its lowest seting. Try not to puncture the filter element. reinstall.

Haze

Rather hard to properly diagnose this one off such a short description, but...

1/ Bulb OK, not over hours or otherwise damaged?
2/ Is it constant for all images, just a general coloured haze, not a strange "shadow", "ghost" or "fringe" that alters depending on what you display?
3/ Lens nice and clean?
4/ Surface you're projecting it onto also clean and at least nominally white?
5/ Input cables all fine at both ends and work correctly with other output devices (TV and/or computer monitor)?
6/ Haze still in place with different cables and input devices?
7/ Does the projector regularly show the same static image for extended periods?

The VT460s were buggers for suffering from internal LCD and filter glass issues if allowed to overheat, and with image burn-in, especially if fitted with unusual lenses (e.g. extreme short-throw); I've had to do internal cut-and-swap surgery on a few of them before, with donor image elements from projectors that died due to other problems. I can't say the one VT470 has shown any sign of similar, but the two VT480s are worse if anything. So it's entirely possible that we just got the one good VT470 out of the whole production run. As intimated by the above, it could be anything out of a failing bulb, dirty lens (or internal image element) glass, image burn-in, LCD/filter damage from overheating (and mind that being turned on showing a "blank" screen for ages can cause a similar effect, as all of the bulb's 200 watts of light energy is then being completely absorbed by three thumbnail-sized pieces of liquid crystal... the bulb doesn't turn off unless the projector is shut down completely!), problems with internal circuitry, dodgy cables, unsuitable projection surfaces, or problems with the devices feeding images to it. It really is a minefield until it can be narrowed down.

Display gets off after 5 minutes

Hello
The check the air filter. Clean it first. Turn the power OFF and unplug the device from AC mains. Draw out the air filter cover and remove it. Remove the air filter. Wash the air filter with mild dtergent solution and dry it in a shaded place. Attach the air filter back to device, so that it fits into the each claws on the air filter cover and replace the cover.
If you neglect to clean the air filter, dust may accumulate, clogging it. As a result, temperature may arise inside the unit leading to a possible malfunction. Be sure to attach the aif filter cover firmly. "Power cannot be turned ON" if it is not closed securely.
The air filter will have a face and a reverse side. Place the air filter, so that it fits on a notch on the air filter cover.
If this doesn't help you, check the cooling fan. If fan speed is reduced, proper air circulation will not be ther, as a result the inside of the unit will overheat causing malfunctions, which has not been described anywhere in its manual. If needy, replace the fan. The final possible cause for this fault is with its Lamp itself. Confirm it before replacing, by doing all the above porcedure. OK.

After running for a few minutes it shuts off, won't restart until it cools down

the Projector unit may be overheating due to airflow. ensure that the intake filter is not blocked, remove and clean it and then replace do not run with filter removed as this will cause dust inside your machine. check that none of the airflow slits on the body of the machine are bloced or taped over.
check that the unit has enough airflow around it to keep cool if unsure move the machine to a open space and let it run to see if the problem persits or stops.

if this persists it may mean the overheat cut off switch is defective and keeps activating even though the machine is not overheated.

I hope this helps.

Sony VPL HS 1 will not start after a power cut, fuse ok, including first stage fuse inside unit. standby light not on ..any ideas?

Try cleaning out the filter. There may be a heat protection mechanism in there. We had much less problems after cleaning (or replacing the dust filter).

Hi, I have an Optoma Hd70 and it keeps turning off after about a 1 min and the temperature indication is blinking red. Is there an airfilter I can clean or something?

Sounds like there is a overheat sensor failed in this unit in the lamp balast sure a cloaged filter could heat the unit as well so yeah check that..

1. short lamp live 2. overheating

First, make sure you've cleaned any dust filters on the unit!! That in itself will usually stop overheating (think of someone closing off your nose and mouth) that's what happens when the dust filter gets clogged--the unit strangles for cool air and rapidly overheats--this not only shortens lamp life dramatically, but also shortens the life of ALL components in the unit, especially delicate LCD panels or the display chip in a DLP projector!

Clean your air filters. The unit will shut down if it overheats. Ensure that all the filters are cleaned and replaced regularly.
