Question about Xerox WorkCentre Pro 555 Plain Paper Laser Fax

1 Answer

Cannot Send Faxes

We receive an error code in the status report called "NG BO." We receive faxes but cannot send them. We have never had this problem in the past. We checked the phone line and it appears ok.

It seems that your solutions are very good, but I am a bit unfamiliar with your terminology. Can you tell me what "Main PWB" means? Also, what is the ETI 170535? Finally, what is the V34 Modem? Is it just the modem for the fax machine?

    Thanks for all the help,
    Sarah K

Yes, it is 100 percent of the time that I can't fax. I have tried several different numbers. Thank you for all your help.

Problem:
Not sending to long distance and government sites with encyrptor. Note: NG is not actually part of the Fault Code. NG stands for No Good on the Activity Report. Cause:
Not enough time to hand shake. Another cause of B5 can be a faulty Main PWB. Note: Should you wish to change the Main PWB, consult the following ETI 170535 to insure that you are selecting the correct part number. Solution: Cannot Send Faxes - thumbsup.gif Fixed! thumbsdn.gif Did not fix. On speed dials and one touch numbers that the Customer is having problems with, you will have to modify the number to be dialed. What you have to do is add pauses to the end of the number. (example 555-5555 does not send to, error B0 (that is B Zero ) every time / then start adding pauses at the end of it until it works. Example 555-5555#. in some cases in Winnipeg and surrounding areas we have had to put up to 6 pauses to get a successful send. Note 1: These were to Fax Machines with encryptor devices and long distance...Avoid Call Backs. Inform the Customer of this. LEAVE instructions on how to do this. This will save your and your Customer some headaches. Note 2: Some success has been found by turning off the V34 Modem

I will look up more in the morning, when I am around my actual manuals

    Sorry,

I just posted the engineering notes. Sometimes they speak a different language.

The main board, would be in a fax the equivalent of the processor in a computer. It is the circuit board that operates the machine.

The ETI is a reference to an engineering tip. and V34 is an adjustment you can find in either the fax or advanced fax setup on any machine. Yes that is the modem speed, in some insane software designers mind LOL.

You could have a phone line issue also. Sending and not receiving is a more unusual issue, and most of the time is the receivig fax machine issue. I would not eliminate static, and lower phone line voltage.

It can be a machine modem issue, but not likely.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Can you not fax 100 percent of the time? Or just one or 2 specific fax machines? They may have their ECM. Error Correction Mode turned off.

    Hope this helps

Note: You will be altering binary bits during this process in step 14. The binary bits count from left to right They lay out as shown in the brackets below:
    [ 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 ]

The following process will turn ECM OFF both and V34 Communication speed OFF as well
    1. Enter Service Mode by turning the Machine OFF
    2. Hold down the 1 & 3 Keys while the machine is being turned back ON
    3. Press Menu
    4. Press 5
    5. Press Enter followed by 0 & 7
    6. Machine Display will now reveal Errorcorrect - ECM and the current setting will be either 1. ON or 2. OFF
Note 1: The objective will be to insure that it reads 2. OFF.
Note 2: Should it read 1. ON go on to step 7 & 8.
Note 3: Should it already read 2. OFF go to step 9 next.
    7. Down Arrow to change the reading to value of 2. OFF
    8. Press Enter to lock the new setting in as being ECM 2. OFF ( The Display will read Completed)
    9. Press Stop
    10. Press Menu
    11. Press 6 & 5
    12. Press Down Arrow ( The Display will read Set Function )
    13. Press Enter repeatedly until reaching FUNC27
    14. Press Right Arrow until Bit 1 isunderlined. * See Note at Top.
    15. Make the underlined Bit read 0
    16. Press Enter
    17. Press Stop 2 times
    18. Power the Machine OFF and then back ON
    19. Now try sending to the problem Machine. It should work now.

    ETI v1.3.20.0

The information below is Generic and applies to most Fax Machines.

There are some common Customer Adjustable features that could induce the symptoms:

Note: Not all machines have all of these features.

    1. Distinctive Ring may be turned ON. This feature is looking for a particular variety of ring tone to be present, or the Fax unit will not answer.
    2. The Machine may be set to Manual Receive. This condition would be waiting for the Customer Operator to take an action to start the process.
    3. Junk Mail (caller Junk Fax Barrier on some machines) may be turned on. The Machine will usually ring once. Then the Fax unit compares the incoming caller Fax Machine ID with ones listed in the Dial Directory. When not finding a match, the Fax Unit hangs up the line.
(This last point is Customer phone line related.)
    4. Low Ring Voltage may be enough for the ringer to function, but not strong enough to enable the Fax Unit to pick up the line.

    Solution:

    Fixed! Did not fix.

Note: An Analog phone line that is required for the Fax to operate will have 2 to 4 wires in the (RJ11) jack feeding to the Fax unit in the wall. Digital phone lines will have 6 - 8 wires in the jack feeding to the Fax unit in the wall. Digital lines do not support proper Fax operation

Start with COMCAST. They are your service provider, and if everything was working well before you switched then they need to make it right. Since you are using the word customer, this means that the service disruption is affecting your business. Call customer support now.

HOW TO PRINT FAX CONFIRMATIN PAGE MFC440CN

Hi,

To print fax send confirmation report:

bet3_0.jpg

You can use the Transmission Verification Report as proof that you sent a fax. This
report lists the time and date of transmission and whether the transmission was successful
(OK). If you choose On or On+Image, the report will print for every fax you send.
If you send a lot of faxes to the same place, you may need more than the job numbers to
know which faxes you must send again.

Choosing On+Image or Off+Image will print a section of the fax's first page on the report
to help you remember.

When the Transmission Verification Report is turned Off or Off+Image, the Report will
only print if there is a transmission error, with NG in the RESULT column.

HP 6310 All-in-One. How do I get a fax confirmation?

If you need printed confirmation that your faxes were successfully sent, follow these instructions to enable fax confirmation before sending any faxes. Select either On Fax Send or Send & Receive.

The default fax confirmation setting is Off. This means that the HP All-in-One will not print a confirmation report for each fax sent or received. A confirmation message indicating whether a fax was successfully sent appears briefly on the display after each transaction.

To enable fax confirmation from the control panel

1. Press Setup.

2. Press 2, and then press 3.

This selects Print Report and then selects Fax Confirmation.

3. Press to select one of the following, and then press OK.

Off Does not print a fax confirmation report when you send and

receive faxes successfully. This is the default setting.

On Fax Send Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you send.

Fax

On Fax Receive Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you receive.

Send & Receive Prints a fax confirmation report for every fax you send and

receive.
