It does unscrew from the shaft. The Torx screw holding it is hidden and doesn't come out of the housing once it is loosened. It is screwed into the end of the shaft. You will have to keep the engine from turning to loosen it. Pull spark plug out and move piston to bottom of stroke. Put some nice, soft, clean rope in the cylinder and let the piston compress it when you turn the Torx screw in the clutch rotor housing.

Craftman weedacker

  • Hole in the end of the clutch housing where the cable slides in has a # 20 torx screw in there.
  • Pull the spark plug, stuff some rewind starter rope in the plug hole, use a water pump pliers and turn off the clutch plate(s). NOTE: curved shaft trimmer will be a standard right-hand thread, straight shaft will be a left-hand thread.

Clutch assembly

go google and type in --workshop manual for craftsman trimmer -- and down load any pdf version for it
in reality most centrifugal clutches for trimmers work the same so any one manual for any make would give you insight on how to do it if craftsman don't supply a pdf version for download

How do I remove the hassel free head of my craftsman trimmer model 358.791170

I can get you part way there. Remove the spark plug and shove some clean rope in the cylinder to prevent the engine rotating. Take the front housing off to access the clutch assembly, pull off the black plastic cover from the shaft end, and use a torx wrench to loosen the screw in the end of the shaft. After it's loose, the clutch drum will come right off. Unfortunately, I am stuck now trying to get the rest of the clutch assembly off without damaging it.

I'm having problems figuring out how to change or repair the string pull on a craftsman 22 inch gas hedge trimmer. It looks to me like you have to remove the clutch. How do you do that?

remove screws on both sides of plastic housings, remove spark plug, pull off plactic cap on the bottom side of the clutch plate. stick a wooden stick in that hole to keep the crank shaft from turning when you put an adjustabloe wrench on the clutch, unscrew clutch to get other half of housing off to get to the pull rope.

How to fix my echo gt200r gas trimmer I was trimming with it and it got hook on a vine. Then when I engaged the throttle it spun for a second and then stopped, tried a couple more times and it did the same...

remove the head from the shaft( tube) and remove the broken drive cable
get and fit new cable and then reattach the head to the shaft ( tube )
the gears in the head are fairly robust but the drive is a cable which twists up and pulls out of the drive squares at either end

No spark Craftsman 989.796060 32CC string trimmer

I believe there is a t20 trox screw holding the clutch cover on. Look down the hole where the drive shaft would insert. After you get that off, the clutch itself needs to be pulled off of the shaft. DO NOT BEAT ON THE END OF THE SHAFT. You may need a small puller to get it off.

Remove spark plug and insert some cord into the spark plug hole to freeze the crank shaft. This way you can unscrew the clutch from the engine .

Using a small but long screwdriver, remove the screw attaching the clutch assembly to the shaft. The screw can be found by looking down hollow shaft of clutch assembly.
