Question about GE Hotpoint Top-Freezer Refrigerator
The refrigerator door was left open and next day I found the machine did not work. I closed the door but it can make noise as usual but the temperature remains the same. Could anyone give me some advice as to how to fix this? Thanks.
i came home and refigerator door was open about an inch- mustve been that way for 6 hours- the foods are still pretty chilled- and freezer is frozen- but i have not heard it "kick on" one time since i closed the door-how do i know if the thing is working at all?
If this is a frost-free model with the evaporator buried in a tunnel behind the cabinet, there's a good chance you've just got it thoroughly iced up inside.
I'd be tempted to see if you can borrow some space in a neighbour's freezer for a day or so and turn your freezer off for 24 hours (with the door propped open) to defrost thoroughly.
Once all the ice has melted and you've mopped up all the ensuing mess, I think there's a good chance all will be well again. Even if it isn't, you haven't really lost anything through trying.
