I am having a problem w/my monitor on my laptop.it has lines thru it and will not let me log in.it sometimes goes white also

If you can obtain a desktop monitor used for PCs, plug it into the side port on the laptop. Start up the system and see if it runs OK on the external monitor. If so, the problem is with the LCD display on the laptop.

Your lcd screen has gone bad and needs to be replaced. To isolate that it's the screen or the video card borrow a monitor from a relative, neighbor, friend or co-worker and plug it into the laptop. If the borrowed screen displays fine without any problems then your original screen is bad. If the borrowed screen shows the white area with black leakage ink as your old monitor then the video card in the computer is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if thedisplay shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crtmonitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vgaport. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will showon most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systemswill require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold downthe FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thruF12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will havethe icon of a display.

Either your lcd screen is going bad or you could have a loose lcd cable. Either one will require you to disassemble the lcd screen. Try connecting an external monitor to your laptop and see if the screen image displays ok on it. if so that means your video card is ok, the problem is with the screen. You'll have to hit the FN (Function Key) + (F1 thru F12) key to get the image to display on an external monitor. It can even be one of the old fat crt monitors as long as it connects to your laptop's vga port. Hold the FN key and hit the corresponding key that allows the external monitor to display. Normally the correct F1 thru F12 key will have the words lcd/crt or an icon of a display on it.

Tryconnecting an external monitor to the laptop. You may have to select the videooutput to display on the external monitor by holding down the blue key and pressing the blue CRT/LCD (located on one of the keys, likeF8,F9, etc..). If the problem occurs on the external monitor with the batteryor AC power, then you have a problem with either the video card or motherboardin the laptop. If the problem does not happen using the external monitor thenyou laptop's LCD display is going bad.

You may have loose screen interface connector on the back of the screen or on the mother board.

or is damage if it was hit, the LCD will have damage

it is prolly your video card going bad and/or overheating.

It appears that your graphics card is defective. If the monitor works on your laptop and reinserting the graphics card did not help, I would suspect the card itself.

Its more or less your monitor has gone bad.
To check the same , unplug the monitor from the computer , a slef test feature check would be displayed . Check if the monitor goes blank or shows ghost lines . If yes the monitor is bad. If you have got the system before 12 Dec 2005 its generaly covered under 3 yrs warranty.If purchased after that , it would have your system warranty

During the move was your laptop dropped or bumped ? If so you might of unseated the video adapter from your laptop. Have you tried another monitor? I wouldnt rule the monitor as the problem.
