Thanks for your help re: the microphone. I plugged it in, but no volume. Where do you adjust the volume control for the microphone? Is it on the desktop somewhere? Thanks again for your quick reply, Annika

Hi Annika,
The setting of Microphone Volume depends on whic is your hardware and which Operating system you are using. Also in which software you are trying to use.

I am describing here a general way how to addjust microphone volume

  • See the following pic:
  • Pavilion dv4000 microphone - 5719bbf.gif
  • The above picture is from my icon tray, you can find it on your right-bottom of the screen.
  • I have marked two icons the first one (left) is for Realteck as its my audio device, the second (right) is from windows and its avail in all windows operating system.
  • So just double click on Volume icon (right one).
  • It will open a window like:

  • Click on option and select properties
  • Then click on Recording and then on ok button as followsPavilion dv4000 microphone - 5ba0903.gif class="h_mi">5ba0903.gif

How to detect microphone in laptop

Hi,

I think it would be better if we check that the built-in microphone is working on your machine.

Internal microphone

The internal microphone is located near the top of the notebook LCD display or near the bottom of the LCD display near the hinge. Use the following best practices to better capture sound with the microphone.

-Adjust the notebook PC screen to place the microphone in the best direction for receiving sound.

-Speak directly into the microphone. Avoid speaking away from the microphone.

-When using the internal microphone, choose an environment without background noise.

Testing the record function on the notebook PC

1. Click Start , then Programs , Accessories , Entertainment , and then Sound Recorder .
2. Click Record (the red dot) and speak into the microphone.
3. When you are finished recording, click Stop (the gray rectangle).
4. To play back the recording, click Play (the gray arrow pointing to the right).

If happens that the recording with the microphone have no sound we have check the settings.

Checking microphone settings

1. Click Start , then Programs , Accessories , Entertainment , and then Volume Control .
2. A Volume Control or Master Volume window opens.
3. Click Options , and then Properties .
4. Select Recording , and make sure Microphone is selected.
5. Click OK . The Volume Control window should change to a Recording Gain Control window.
6. Click Options again and then click Advanced Controls . If Advanced Controls is unavailable, then an alternate microphone is not available. Proceed to the next series of steps.
7. Remove the check next to Alternate microphone , click Close , and test the microphone. If there is still no sound, continue to the next step

Ensuring the correct recording device is selected

1. Access sound properties:

-In Windows XP, to access the sound control panel applet, click Start , then Control Panel . Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices , and then click Sounds and Audio Devices .

-In Windows 95, 98, and Me, click Start , Settings , and Control Panel . Double-click Sounds and Multimedia , or Multimedia . The Sounds and Multimedia Properties window opens.

2. Click the Audio tab.

3. Under Sound Playback , select the audio device that is installed on the computer (there should be only one).

4. Under Sound Recording , select the audio device that is installed on the computer. It should be the same as the listing under Sound Playback .

5. Click OK .

6. Close the Sound and Multimedia Properties window and test the recording.

Feel free to reply if happens the steps I've told you is not working. Hope it helps.

Hey, i just bought an HP with the illumintaed volume adjustment bars at the top of the keyboard. Whenever i change the volume using it it has a continual ticking.. is there any way to disable this ticking?...

is it an entertainment pc? if it is there is a flaw with the soft crappy cover they put instead of actual buttons. you have to take it off like you were going to replace the kb and follow the wire and make sure its plugged in good and not touching any metal or any other wires and put the cover back and make sure its snapped in all the way. had this on two so far.

Microphone volume goes down automatically

Go to control panel and select the sound option

There you will find microphone settings that are enabled, one of them is set to on and adjusts volume automatically as the noise increases, jsut disable that option

Cheers

Headset microphone will not work on my hp pavilion notebook

The in-/outputs may not be turned on at this time. Either check your settings in the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices or, if a small speaker is shown on the right of your toolbar below, double-click this to open the sound control panel.

Pavilion PC Notebook Verve dv2000 Microphone

yaa you have to set your microphone valume but first check if you are getting right connection.
In front panel jac there are three Jacks
  • The Left on is for microphone, i.e. you should insert the microphone node in it.
  • The second 2 jacks are for speakers you can insert speaker node in any one or both.

Try this I think it will work, otherwise ask me and let me know whats going on.
