Question about OKI C5500n Printer

1 Answer

Bad color, smells hot

The printer prints b/w just fine on regular paper and cardstock but when I try to print in color on anything, it is muddy, and smells hot. Oki told me to make sure it was plugged directly into the wall socket and not a surge protector (what's with that?) and to replace the drums, which helped minimally. Tthe fuser has a reported 58% life to it, but I am thinking that it may be the problem Any suggestions?

Canon pro 9000 printing not printing vibrant colors

I've had 5 Pro9000 & Pro9000 II's so far. Mechanically sound and fairly heavy duty. Mostly by default they print muddy or muted, with unsatisfactory reds and yellows. The default settings usually suck. I have had to develop my own driver settings and save them to printer profiles for individual situations. There is a lot of control in the driver settings and I recommend making your own color charts for reference, displaying the settings on each page. I also recommend regular nozzle checks and calibration. Avoid cleaning via the driver utility as this wastes a lot of ink, which is all deposited on the bottom of your printer and eventually has to be dealt with. Instead, remove and soak the head. Completely dry before reinstalling.

Next, Press CTRL P to open the print dialog box, then select properties. Modify the paper size of the printer.

Hope this helps.

Doesn't print on cardstock

Inkjet should always prints no matter what type of printing material you use since they only spray inks (laser will be different). Even if it is not compatible you will still see inks / smudge all over the surface. Try check your actual colour againts the paper it might be too similar hence not visible.

Will not print evenly on cardstock business cards

This can be caused by the cardstock slipping to one side as it prints. Make sure when you print you are using the card stock settings found under your printer setup - paper type. Check to make sure that the paper you are usng is meant for your printer, most printers are meant for up to a certain pound of paper eg 120lbs. and going over this could mean that the paper is too heavy for your printer which causes the rollers to slip as it pulls the paper through your printer.

Ink Color Issues

Did you change any of the configurations on your printer. Most photo printers have color settings that are media dependent. It sounds like you might have it set to print on regular paper but not on photo paper. There are a lot of settings that you can accidentally change on a printer so I would suggest uninstalling the printer then reinstalling it and see if that is the issue.
