What exactly do you mean your computer cant recognize it? When you click on my computer or when you look at Device manager? well in either case go back in and check your connections also make sure you have the setting on your dvd device to master or slave correct.

I installed a sata dvd drive in my dc5100 sff the boot order recognises it as an ide drive

i dont think it matter if your system detects it as sata or ide, both interface will work in installing OS, the important thing is you changed your boot order. originally it was supposed to boot in 1st drive whichever it is hard drive or dvd drive. go to bios then follow the instruction in how to move the order of boot sequence, mine is SHIFT key then PLUS.

What type of dvd drive can I install on emachine w3118 IDE or SATA?

This computer has a IDE and SATA port inside it so you can either install a IDE or SATA drive on it, but what it came per built is a IDE drive.

Instalation of ad on IDE/SATA PCI card

You have to set one of the DVD as Master end the other as Slave if they share the same ribbon connector. Do this simple test: let only one of the DVD connected. If the PC "sees" this one, then the card is OK. If need more instructions, just post a comment.

New IDE Drive - will it work on my Desktop?

According to the manual for your computer it only has SATA connectors. 4 to be exact. There are no IDE connectors.

SATA cables look like this:

There are many good SATA drives out there. It is a better (faster) drive besides.

selected is secondary dvd rom. check the power cable.
icon can change it does not mater. you need to open the dvd rom.

Computer DVD/CD Drive does not recognise any discs

The most likely cause is a faulty DVD drive. Replacing the DVD drive is fairly simple.

You can buy a new one online for around $25 including shipping. If you need help finding a drive or installing a drive, I can help with that. Just let me know.

Installed SH-S202 dvd writer some time ago, and since that time have experienced shut down problems on my Dell with XP pro. It never shuts down, but seems to go into Standby mode first. Then, when it...

Check the power settings:

START | Control panel | Power settings

Make sure all settings are Never

Also go to the Advanced tab and remove any Standby entries.

The DVD Writer installation is most likely a coincidence then an actual suspect with the standby issues.

Thanks,

Vincent

Bought DVD-Rs, 'Verbatim', 16x for Dell Dimension 4600, driver Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-352F Computer does not recognise the dvd Wrong purchase?

This drive is a CD writer only. Although it will read DVD's it will not write to them.

You will need to replace the drive with a DVD-RW drive.

Hope this helps.

Please remember to rate.

Need rewriter to save photos to disc but cannot find the model number of dvd rom

You don't need a specific model number to buy a DVD/RW for your computer. You just need to know if it is a SATA or IDE connection to replace the one you have.

If you don't know, take the one you have to a retail and "match" the connections with a RW version, and put the new RW verson you just bought in, install the software and you will be good to go.
