1 Answer

Copies only 75% of page

I recently replaced the toner cartridge but now the same problem occurs: only 75% of an 8 1/2 x 11 page is copied.
Please note my product is model 1083 CS Pro copier.

Is it reducing the size of the original image, or just cutting it off?

Could be a bad drum unit. Is the new toner cartridge a refilled? Remanufactured? or Brand New Xerox brand toner? If it is refilled or remanufactured I would run some copies and give it a chance to clear. Sometimes they end up with too much toner in the Developer mix and can be overtoned which causes a general background over the whole page. They should clear up as you run copies, say within 100 pages. Also try manually lightening the copy with the exposure control on the operation panel. If lightening the copy clears all of the background then you need to have the optics cleaned. There are 4 mirrors under the large original glass that need to be cleaned. If all this fails then you are looking at either drum unit or a defective or out of balance toner/developer cartridge.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Xerox 4118

That isnt unusual. The 8000 pages is for a page with 5 percent coverage area, or a rather short letter.
the 3600 to 4000 pages is not out of the ordinary for that machine, Although the xerox brand may work better, although not more copies, if you run pages with more than 5 percent of the page printed, that is about right.
Also there is no chip on a 4118 cartridge. The toner is monitored by a sensor and window in the middle of the cartridge. It shines light through the cartridge, and when the cartridge is empty the light actuates a light activated sensor.
it is not an efficient machine.

I use to get thousands of copies from one cart -

DELL has two types of toner cartridges for your printer:
- a 3000 Page Standard Yield Toner Cartridge (Manufacturer Part# : RP441 | Dell Part# : 310-8701)
- a 6,000 Page High Yield Toner
(Manufacturer Part# : GR332 | Dell Part# : 310-8700)

The Toner yield is based on printing pages with 5% page coverage in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752 testing methodology. Yields vary with usage and environmental conditions.
In practice, depending on what type of documents you print, one cartridge can print much less than the quantity of prints advertised.

You might perhaps bought before a high capacity (more expensive cartrige)?
Also, if you are using compatible (not original Dell cartridges) or reffils of the original cartriges , the yeld of the cartrige may vary.

Copies are coming out streaky

Defective toner. And a cartridge is only good for about 2000 pages - not 10,000.

Panasonic DP-150PA Light Copies to no copies

Have you reseated the drum and toner?
It can be a drum cartridge problem. have you tried that?
You say copy or print, so I am asuming this is multifunction and you do both printing and copying.
1, Have you shook up the toner cartridge well.
After the drum and shaking the toner, I would suspect the transfer assembly, Off hand I cant remember of that machine has a transfer roller, or if there is a channel where there is a hair fine wire running through it.
The wire may have broken, or if its a roller making poor contact.
The laser is also possible. The transfer will be on the right had door assembly.
Take the cartridges out and see if there is anything laying loose in the machine,
what you are describing sounds more like a drum or transfer problem.
sounds very much like a defective transfer. And again, could easily be the drum.
Did you have a jam just before this occured? If you had a jam in particular in the right hand door, you broke the transfer wire.
Yeah, i am rambling huh?

How to remove or change toner

If you dont have the user's manual, here you have it online :
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200602/20060216163720484_ML-2010_English.pdf
Look at page 24 - "Installing the toner cartridge" where you'll find this, but also pictures to illustrate how to do it.:

"1 Grasp the front cover and pull it toward you to open.
Note: Because the printer is very light, it may be moved when you
use it; for example, when opening/closing the tray or installing/
removing the toner cartridge. Be careful not to move the printer.
2 Remove the toner cartridge from its bag and remove the
paper protecting the cartridge by pulling the packing tape.
3 Gently roll the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner.
Thoroughly rolling the cartridge will assure maximum
copies per cartridge.
Note: If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth
and wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into fabric.
Cautions:
• To prevent damage, do not expose the toner cartridge to light for
more than few minutes. Cover it with a piece of paper, if left
exposed for more than a few minutes.
• Do not touch the green underside of the toner cartridge. Use the
handle on the cartridge to avoid touching this area.
4 Locate the cartridge slots inside the printer, one on each side.
5 Unfold the toner cartridge handle and grasp it. Insert the
cartridge in the printer until it snaps into place.
Note: Carefully insert or pull out the toner cartridge not to scratch
against the printer.
6 Close the front cover. Make sure that the cover is securely
closed. If the cover is not firmly closed, printing errors may occur when you print.

Rate the answer please.
