Power to compressor must be off (about 5 minutes) before a restart should be tried. Some of these relays are thermal and must cool down before power is reapplied.

SOURCE: Marvel 6BAR stopped cooling

I had the same issue after the unit was two weeks old. Marvel sent service people to service the unit, but they ultimately told me that the unit was not suppose to get any cooler because "of federal regulations" (I kid you not). I had to have an unaffiliated repair person remove the digital thermometer and put in a manual one. Now the unit cools well and I am pursuing Marvel for the $200 the service person charged me.

SOURCE: frigidaire PLHS268ZCB1 freezer not freezing,

I believe that your compressor is not running or you have a refrigerant loss. I say this because there should be warm air coming from the condenser.

The motor does not run constantly...should it cyle on and off and if so , how often

Hello Andy, thank you for your post!

By motor, are you referring to the compressor of your refrigerator? The compressor can run for longer periods of time and this is actually more energy efficient. Unlike older refrigerators that turned off and on frequently, newer models save energy from having to start up and shut off repeatedly. For example, diesel-powered trucks conserve fuel and energy and therefore have less engine wear and tear by keeping the motor running; much like newer energy efficient refrigerators. If the compressor is running on a more constant basis; it is maintaining the temperature within your refrigerator, rather than having to cut off and start again to adjust the temperature.

I hope this information explains your concern. However, should you feel that a service technician is needed; you may visit the manufacturer website to find a provider in your area that will look at your appliance.

Best regards, Chris!

My frigidare refrigerator was working fine when i put it in storage 3 years ago. took it out of storage a week ago and plug it up and it has not cooled at all.

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay. The relay is a small usually black cube shaped electrical part plugged into the compressor or wired to it nearby. It may appear burnt or rattle when shaken if it's bad. The two connections should show continuity with an amp meter. If it's good then it's most likely the compressor causing the problem.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Why would the door gaskets be very warm underneath?

Since it is likely that your fridge is less than 20+ years old, it has become standard to design modern fridges with built-in door edge warmers to keep condensation (moisture) from forming on the exterior at the door edges along the main cabinet.

Since doors get opened frequently and the difference between the cool, dry air of the fridge and the room air can cause condensation to form quite often, the manufacturers install heating elements along the door edges in both the freezer and fridge compartments to help keep the condensation from forming.

Some makers (GE was the 1st) installed "energy saver" switches inside some of their fridges. The reason was not every area required the door edge heating elements to be on constantly, so by turning the "energy saver" switch "ON" it would turn these small heaters "off", thus saving some energy. With the "energy saver" switch "OFF, you would turn "on" the heaters and help prevent condensation from forming.

To get an idea of this, think of your toilet tank and how it "sweats" in the hot, humid summer months, as the water is colder than the air in the room, thus condensation forms on the exterior of the tank, as the difference in the temperature of the surrounding air and the water in the tank meet.

What you are noticing is normal and is no cause for alarm. Today's fridges no longer employ "energy saver" switches, as the heating element and technology has improved to the point that the energy consumption is minimal for the connivance of not having excessive condensation on the exterior of the fridge!

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

CHECK AND MAKE SURE YOU CAN HEAR YOUR EVAPORATOR FAN RUNNING (INSIDE MOTOR). IF IT IS NOT RUNNING ... AND YOUR COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING. THE MOTOR OR DEFROST TEMENATION SWICTH COULD BE DEFECTIVE. IF NOTHING IS RUNNING ... TRY TO LOCATE THE DEFROST TIMER(USUALLY LOCATED WHERE YOUR COLD CONTROLS ARE) YOU SHOULD SEE A SMALL HOLE WHERE YOU CAN MANUALLY TURN THE TIMER WITH A SCREW DRIVER.IT CAN ONLY TURN IN ONE DIRECTION. IF THE MOTOR IS RUNNING. CHECK TO SEE IF COMPRESSOR IN THE BACK IS RUNNING ... IF IT ISNT AND IS "HOT" (BE CAREFULL) SEE IF THE CONDENSER MOTOR NEAR THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING ... IF NOT ... THE COND. MOTOR IS BAD ... THAT MOTOR RUNS IF POWER IS GOING TO THE COMPRESSOR ALWAYS. IF COMPRESSOR IS HOT AND NOT RUNNING AND COND. FAN IS RUNNING .... UN PLUG FRIG AND WAIT TILL COMPRESSOR IS COOL TO THE TOUCH. THESE COMPRESSORS HAVE AN INTERNAL T-STAT THAT PROTECTS THE COMPRESSOR IF IT SHORT CYCLES.IT SOMETIMES GETS SO HOT IT DOES TAKE HOURS TO COOL OFF. THERE IS ALSO A DEFROST-TERMINATION SWITCH THAT CAN GO BAD. CONSULT A LICSESED FACTORY CERTIFIED COMPANY TO GIVE YOU A FIXED-PRICE DIAGNOSTIC TEST.
