Installing from the internet not the enclosed CD ( Wonderfull when you buy something marked vista ready) everything goes on easily until you try to run anything to do with the scanner and then you get a message saying "insufficient memory" Even Canon so far have not come up with a solution. Brand new XPS 420.

My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it. Fast Forward: Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available. I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.
It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.
On Canon's support page for this printer PM210 Support there are 3 different driver files available. One is for XP and Vista 32-bit systems, one for XP 64-bit systems, and one for Vista 64-bit systems. If you know what system you have select it in the drop down menu and download and install it.
You need to have the installation CD for your printer and it needs to be compatible to your operating system (Vista or Xp). You can just place that disk in your CD/DVD drive and it will autorun. The printer should not be connected to your computer while doing the installation. Wait for it to ask for the connection. Have paper ready since you will be asked to to print something which will signify that the installation was successful. Thank you. Hope this helps.
If you are working with Microsoft Vista, then take your pc or notebook back to the company you bought it that they can reload Vista. It is probably a software problem. With me it installed etc and i can print, but each time that i must plug in the printer usb cable in my notebook, it tries to install it again. Finally goes the reason, Vista software problems.
