Error Codes F dl and F 11

After reading your posting dated 10/27/07, we followed the steps to reconnect all the wires to the CCU and ran the diagnostic routine. The unit passed, but I still have the same issue. Any other suggestions?

    We are receiving the following errors: F dl after running load for about 3 minutes. I try to cancel it and then start it again. The machine will continually give the F dl error. If we cancel the load and try the drain/spin option it may start or will give a F 11 error.

    Also I know that I the load will probably make it give I hear the locking click when the machine starts. If I hear a weak electronic buzz when it tries to start I know this load is not going to start and I will receive the errors as discussed above.

    Reading someone's problem you had suggested reconnecting all the wires to the CCU and ran the diagnostic routine. We have done this. The
    unit passed, but I still have the same issue. Any other suggestions?

    Reconnect wires to the CCU for what? Did you recently replace the CCU? What same issue are you still having? Please elaborate on what you have done, so I can give the correct advice.

Okay...it sounds like you have a bad door latch assembly. It makes contact, washer begins the wash cycle, and then after some vibration becomes unlatched and generates the "Fdl" code or "F11". "Fdl" is a door latch error, "F11" is a serial communications error to the CCU. A door latch problem can generate BOTH codes, because it has a communication link to the CCU. I would recommend replacing the door latch. You can find the part at either repairclinic.com or searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number in the Search menu and you will find a listing of all the parts. Check The following things:

Door Lock Error
A Door Lock Error occurs if the door cannot be unlocked. It will try to lock it 6 times before displaying the error.

Check the following things

  • Door Lock Mechanism broken or removed from the Door
  • Check Door Lock/Switch Assembly
  • Check the wire harness connections to the Door Lock/Switch Assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU)
  • Door Lock/Switch Assembly Failure

F11 and DL error on Whirlpool Duet washer. Please help


"F11" is a Serial Communications error between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and Motor Control Unit (MCU). The CCU is the main computer for the washer and is located directly behind the wash tub. The MCU is the Drive Motor Control board and is located in the rear of the washer adjacent to the Drive Motor on the left-hand side (facing from the rear with the back panel removed). The wiring harness can also cause the error, but it is not as common a problem.

Whirlpool is the manufacturer of both model washers and recommends the following troubleshooting advice. Remove the top panel of the washer by removing the three screws holding it in place in the rear. Once the screws are removed, the panel slides back, then off. Remove the rear panel of the washer for access to the drive motor and MCU. Now check the following:

- Check the wire harness connections between the CCU, the MCU and Drive Motor. Make sure all connections are attached and making good contact. Check for any broken wires or connector pins.

Have had F DL code and now F 11 code? I know FDL


"F11" is a Serial Communications error code. This means there is a loss of communications between the Central Control Unit (CCU), Motor Control Unit (MCU), and/or controls. The following link explains:

If you are receiving BOTH error codes, this means the CCU is not communicating properly with the door latch mechanism. This can be an indication of a broken door latch, failed CCU, or interconnecting wiring between the two. The CCU has a small relay on the board that controls the door latch. These boards are not serviceable, and if defective, must be replaced.

I would recommend you try these procedures first:

1. Remove the top panel of the washer by locating and removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

2. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub. Trace the wires that lead from the door latch mechanism. In the area where the door latch connector plug is connected to the CCU, tap the CCU with a screwdriver. Sometimes the relay on the board sticks and the latch will not lock.

3. If the door latch still fails to lock, UNPLUG the washer and disconnect the door latch connector plug from the CCU and reseat it. Do that same thing on the door latch. Sometimes the connectors become corroded and reseating them can restore connectivity.

4. If you still have problems perform a continuity check of the wires that lead from the door latch to the CCU.

If the error code(s) still persist, most commonly this is a CCU failure. Since the control board cannot communicate with the door latch, both errors will be generated.
